Billy Kern Obituary


Billy W. Kern, 81, formerly of Windsor Township, died Monday, August 31, 2015, in Country Meadows, Wyomissing.

Born in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, he was a son of the late Warren J. and Clardine (Knappenberger) Kern.

Billy was employed as a brick mason over 45 years until his retirement in 1998, at the former Kern Masonry, Topton. Following his retirement, he worked several years as a custodian for Hamburg High School.

Survivors: son, Shane E., husband of Beth A. (German) Kern, Kutztown. There is also a step-grandson, Tyler S. Johnson.

Other survivors include a sister, Betty N. (Kern) Bartholomew, Nazareth; and a brother, Dennis E. "Ben" Kern, Hamburg.

Mr. Kern was predeceased by sisters: Doris J. (Kern) Leiby, Joanne L. (Kern) Zettle, Audrey M. (Kern) Seltmann; and brothers, John D. Kern and Donald R. Kern.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. in Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery, 329 Church Road, Kutztown, with Reverend Dr. Dennis S. Ritter, officiating. There is no viewing.

The family requests contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., Topton, is in charge of arrangements.
