Sorry to hear of Carl's passing. Carl was my grade school art teacher in the late 1960's and I met up with him again in the mid 1970's due to our mutual love of auto racing. I worked at the Reading Fairgrounds as push truck driver, and Carl would sometimes ride with me to the Reading to take photos when it didn't interfere with his taking photos at his home track, Big Diamond. When Reading closed in 1979, Carl helped me get my foot in the door at Big Diamond as a push truck driver and we would carpool together to/from the track on Friday nights. We also worked together on Sundays at Penn National for a few years. When I graduated college, I moved away from Pa and lost contact with Carl. He was a good guy and a great track photographer that I will never forget.
Below is a photo Carl took of me at the Reading Fairgrounds. RIP.

I have so many fond memories of elementary school art class and Mr. Hess. He used to use my ponytails as phone receivers and talk to the kid next to me. He was such a funny guy and I always loved going to art class. My deepest condolences go out to Carla and Audrey.

Mr.Hess was an amazing person and teacher. He made art class fun even when I had absolutely no artistic ability. He will truly be missed

When I started teaching in 1984, Carl was kind and friendly to me. Some of the other teachers told me they really liked my predecessor, but they didn't give me a chance. Carl always showed me the latest projects that his art students were working on. I never forgot his thoughtfulness, and reminded him in recent years of what he did for me . He said he was just being himself, but it meant so much to me. I will miss seeing his Facebook posts and keeping up with his latest artwork.
