So very sad to read of Darryl's passing. I didnt know until I read it in the IN MEMORIAM section of the ALVERNIA MAGAZINE this month. I attended classes with Darryl at Alvernia. I remember him as a gentle and reserved individual who was always congenial. Shared many Communication classes with Darryl and Sr Pacelli. Darryl rest with Jesus. You were a wonderful person. To his family may you find peace.

Scott, my thoughts and prayers are with you and other family members and friends. When I first started teaching at Twin Valley, Darryl was one of my early students in the Middle School and played goalie for the MS soccer team. I later re-united with Darryl when he covered sports for the Eagle. Very kind and always smiling. Always enjoyed reading his articles and the insight and perspective he wove into his stories. One of the best writers ever for the Eagle. But more importantly a great friend.

Extremely saddened by Darryl's passing. We worked together at the newspaper and unfortunately we were both part of the layoffs in 2009. He was great sports writer but an even better friend. It was an honor to be his friend! My heart and prayers go to his family. Until we meet again my friend ❤

Sorry to hear about Darryl's passing. We talked a lot when he worked for the Eagle. He was one of those sportswriters who could converse about other topics. My condolences to his loved ones.

Hi Everyone, just so people know, Darryl passed from a heart attack in his sleep. Scott's request for donation to the cancer center is in honor of their mom. His dad asked for the same when he passed. Thanks all for your support

I am shocked. Didn't even know you were sick Big D. You were a great sports writer and a better friend. The Reading Eagle gets sold on the same day. Very symbolic. That paper went downhill after your departure. No one cared more than you. Will miss you good buddy. God speed Darryl.

Read about Darryl passing with sadness. What a very nice , thoughtful man . Hard Worker , and very good at his craft... I only knew him from speaking after our HS Basketball games - but when I saw he was covering us , I always looked forward to catching up. God Bless

Sorry for the loss of your dear brother. I was lucky to have a conversation with him just before our HS Reunion and spend time with him there as well. I remember his long-time love of sports and trading sports cards. His ability to absorb statistics was just crazy. I also remember your mom being "The Class Mom" before there was ever a PTO demand. Wonderful lady!
It was great to catch up with Daryl and share stories of our lives. He was always a great guy. Sad day when you lose a classmate so young. Hugs and condolences to you Scott and your family.

I met Darryl at Alvernia College and we became friends after realizing that we shared a love of both high school sports and newspapers. I kept up and chatted with him via Twitter, and always enjoyed his flash back tweets to events that he had covered in the past! I am extremely sad to read of his passing, and will miss him greatly.
