She was a daughter of Jeremiah H. Barr and Mabel L. Barr. Her father and uncle, Joseph Essick, were founders of Essick and Barr Insurance Company, which is now a part of Vist Financial.
Her first husband, Attorney John S. Speicher, died in 1970, after which she married Richard B. Moyer, an engineer with Carpenter Technology. Together Betty and Dick competed in numerous bridge tournaments locally, nationally and internationally up until Dick's death in 1990.
She is survived by her three children: Betsy Speicher, Lexington, Mass.; Ann S. Cahill., wife of James D. Cahill, Jacksonville, Fla.; and John J. Speicher, husband of Patricia C. Giles, Spring Township; six grandchildren: Kate, Kim, Elizabeth, Ben, Jeremy and Sarah; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition, Betty is survived by a stepson, Linton Moyer, husband of Carol Moyer, Pittsburgh; and six step-grandchildren.
Her life at The Highlands was enriched by her many friends and the caring professional staff.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross as a nurse's aide at the end of World War II.
She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Reading and had volunteered with the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be private. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
