Evelyn Shirato Obituary

Evelyn E. Shirato, 96, formerly of Newmanstown, died March 9, 2008, in the ECC Retirement Village-Albright Campus, Myerstown.

Her husband, Matthew F. Shirato, died June 6, 1990.

Born in Womelsdorf on Sept. 13, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Horace J. Webner and Lula A. (Gruttis) Troutman.

She worked at CNA Insurance, Reading, for many years, retiring in 1976. Prior to the insurance company, she was a faithful worker at Nolde Knitting Mills, Womelsdorf, for many years, never missing a day of work.

She was a 1929 graduate of Newmanstown High School.

She was a member of New Beginnings-Grace Brethren Church, Myerstown. She was an avid reader and enjoyed oil painting, traveling and knitting. She loved her family and spending time with them.

She is survived by two daughters, Anita Fay, wife of Joel Moehlmann, Richland, and Kathleen “Janie,” wife of Gerald Lengel, Newmanstown.

Other survivors include her grandchildren: Heather Moehlmann-Karnes, wife of Robert Karnes, Richland; Scott, husband of Kim Lengel, Newmanstown; Bronwyn Moehlmann, Newmanstown; Shawn, wife of Michael Weaver, Myerstown; and Arn Moehlmann, Richland; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters, Marion Riehl and Selah Sheetz; and three brothers: Harold Frederick, Raymond Webner and Richard Troutman.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Grose Funeral Home Inc., 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown. Visitation will be Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Womelsdorf Union Cemetery.
