Frederick Hess Obituary

Frederick W. Hess, Jr., 71, passed away on October 30, 2021 at Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Nancy L. (Frey) Hess. They shared many wonderful years together. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Frederick and Sara Hess. Fred attended Reading High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Fred retired from Conrail and the Water Department of the City of Reading, and worked as a part-time police officer for various Berks County municipalities. Most recently he worked as a Berks County park ranger. He loved car shows, motorcycles and the outdoors. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his children: Sharon Steinle (Anthony), of Reading; Robin Hess George (Craig), of Fleetwood; Tara Nauman of Ephrata; Nathan Jones (Jennie) of New Cumberland; and Corey Jones (Alison) of Wyomissing; his grandchildren: Schuyler, Alexis, Leilani, Madison, Kyle, Ryker, and Jaxon; his siblings, Dennis Hess (Diane), of Spring Township; Beverly Charles, of Reading; and Shirley Hafer, of Reading. He was predeceased by his siblings Sanford Shomo, Robert Shomo and Barbara Reinford. A viewing will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
