John Henry Obituary

Dr. John M. Henry, 59, of Wyomissing, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jill E. (Loebrich) Henry. Raised in Doylestown, John was a son of the late William and Marion (Abrams) Henry. Dr. Henry completed his undergraduate studies at Franklin and Marshall College where he was honored as being a Dana scholar, Herman scholar, and elected to the Phi Beta Kappa society. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. While at Johns Hopkins, he performed research on the biology and treatment of prostate and bladder cancer. At the University of Pennsylvania, he served as an intern and resident in general surgery. He completed his urologic studies at the University of Pennsylvania and performed his pediatric training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Henry served as the Chief of Urology at Reading Hospital and was a founding member and practicing partner at the Center for Urological Care of Berks County. John had an enthusiasm for life and a desire to fulfill the happiness of others. He touched countless lives through his gifts to the field of medicine. When not actively treating patients, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling, but most importantly spending time with his family, friends, and dogs. John’s memory will be treasured by his wife, Jill; his children, Madison R., John G., and Regina F. Henry; his step daughter, Riley P. Horner; his sister, Patricia Bodenstab; his brother, William Henry; his aunt, Angie Greene; and his nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of the Delaware Canal, a non-profit organization that aims to preserve the historic Delaware Canal, which was so dear to John at: https://www.fodc.org/join-donate/join-the-friends/legacy-fund/. His family will receive guests on Sunday, August 1, 2021, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave, West Reading. I have just learned of John's passing and I wish to express my condolences to his family. John did his residency in my OR as I worked as a nurse in Urology. We spent many days talking about fishing. I will always remember John as a man who walked to the beat of his own drum. Rest in peace my friend.

Dr. Henry saved my life 5 yrs ago with emergency surgery when I was in full blown septic shock from my kidneys packed with stones. He preformed countless surgeries every 3 weeks for several months. Without his quick thinking I would of died that night. I now have 2 new grandchildren to enjoy. I recently found out I needed his service again only to find out of his passing. I felt compelled to say thank you to him and his family as he touched many ppl in countless ways.

Dr. Henry treated me for bladder and prostate cancer. 16 years cancer free! After moving to Delaware, I continued to come up to Reading for my yearly checkup, because I had such trust in him. Last year he was pleased to tell me I could go two years before my next checkup. He will be missed as a friend, not only as my doctor. Our hearts go out to his family and his staff. My sincere condolences to Dr. Henry´s family, friends and coworkers. I was lucky enough to have him as my physician when I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer 3 years ago. I have so much respect and gratitude for him saving my life. I close my eyes and can still see him walking in the room and delivering the "news" that everyone dreads to hear. He gave me options and he told me "we got this!" Thankfully he was right. I am 3 years cancer free and I owe it all to him. Rest In Peace. You will always be my hero.

Dr Henry was one of the first people I met when I moved to Berks County 29 years ago. I was a young chiropractor out of school and referred him a patient. He took the time to call my office asking how it was I came up with the diagnosis and he was interested as to our training. He was a great doctor, but more a tremendous person. I referred him many patients over the years and everyone was more than pleased. I was shocked to hear of his passing, but more saddened. Deepest condolences to his family and office mates.

John was my roommate in medical school 1984-1985. He was the most consistently upbeat, hilarious, fun guy in those stressful times. We shared a lot of good times back in the day. Farewell, you were a prince among men.

My heart goes out to Jill and her family. Dr. Henry was the best urologist around. When I went to Fox Chase for a 2nd opinion they said he was the best. And the first doctor in Reading I went to referred me to Dr. Henry because he did all the newest medical procedures. I believe he did save my life back in 2003. And has tested me and kept watch ever since. Rest in peace Dr. Henry you will be so missed by all of your patients. You were the best. Thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
