I can't believe that it has been a year since John left us. He was one of the funniest, honest and caring person I have ever had the privilege to know. He loved his art, and blessed me with several of his paintings, all of which I see every day hanging on my living room, and downstairs and upstairs hallways
They bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. God bless you John Surmick.

Seeing his art posted encouraged me to share more.... especially the dark, powerful sailboat. He got so much excitement from that painting, and I was glad to see it represented here. This painting of eagles was inspired and very closely resembled a photo I took... he not only encouraged people to continue to chase their passions, but their energy and passions encouraged his as well... what an amazing, one-in-a-million characteristic. In addition to his eagles, I have included a shot I took in April near Loveland Pass in Colorado, and made an attempt to share with him. Each time I see a particularly interesting landscape, I still think of him and his art, and was hoping to help bolster his art just a little more, also. I searched for his website, but found his tribute page instead. I feel awful for not following up sooner, as he seemed to enjoy correspondence and something didn't seem right. His kindness, thoughtfulness, inquisitive nature, and perseverance were inspiring, and I am thankful to have met him. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends for their huge loss. There is no possible destination besides a warm, peaceful, painless place for a soul such as his.

I do have more I would like to share if you wish to reach out. My email is: [email protected] Thank you.

John has helped a great many people and will remain being missed. I must suggest that he's finally out of all physical ailments. And has surely, happily taken his place in the hereafter. Personally, knowing just how great a servant to God, he was capable of committing too. 2/5 2022

Sympathy to the Surmick family. I´ll always remember the van trip with John, Al and Janine to Pittsburgh moving Janine out to attend university. All the great times driving John to Philly and "around". I´m so glad I have a few of his paintings. They are beautiful. He knew what it meant to serve his family, his country, all of us. Thanks John will miss you.

You have our deepest sympathy. When we met John at our children's wedding rehearsal, we found him to be a very warm, welcoming, and outgoing person. It was obvious that we shared a love of art. He truly made us feel that our families had joined together, and we wish we could have shared more time together. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

John was truly a wonderful man. I only met him on two occasions, yet he was someone I wish I could have spoken with for hours on end. He was a man of many interests and, in seeing him interact with his daughters, son, wife and others, it was readily apparent why he was so loved. He was a proud husband, father and patriarch of his family - the type so many men (myself included) aspire to be.

He was one of those people who made the world, and the lives of so many people, better places to be. His passing is such a deeply profound, painful loss. I know there´s so much sadness, so many tears, and so much grieving. At the same time, his legacy will live on in our memories - memories which will bring a smile and a warmth to the heart on the darkest of days - and in those whose lives he impacted. A compassion, a kindness which, much like John himself, will endure.
