Born February 25, 1921 in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Margaret (Lennon) Travers. He and his wife, Dr. Eleanor May Travers, were married in New York City on August 25, 1979.
Joseph was a longtime executive with the Department of Veterans Affairs, having worked for the VA for over 30 years. He served in Director Positions with the VA
Regional Office, Boston, MA; Resource
Management, Washington, DC; VA Medical Center, Washington, DC; and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Washington, DC. He was also President & CEO of Medecon, Inc., Chestnut Hill, until his retirement in 2008.
Joseph was a member of Our Mother of Consolation
Roman Catholic Church, Chestnut Hill, PA. He was a
graduate of All Hallows High School, New York City, NY, and Fordham University.
He was a United States Army Mustang Officer. A veteran of World War II, he enlisted in May, 1942 and received a battlefield commission, rising to the rank of Major.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Joseph is survived by his 7 children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joseph on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9 a.m. at Our Mother of
Consolation RC Church, Chestnut Hill, PA. Entombment in the Travers Mausoleum will follow in Mystic, Connecticut.
