Laura Weist Obituary


Laura M. Weist, 76, Perry Township, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at 9:24 a.m. in her residence.

Born in Blandon, she was a daughter of the late Clifford J. and Alice M. (Manmiller) Ulrich.

She was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. She is named on the memorial in Washington, D.C., for all women that served in the armed forces.

Laura worked as the manager of King's IGA restaurant, Hamburg, for 13 years, retiring in 1998. She loved to play bingo.

Surviving is one son, John M. Wahl, Maple Grove; and three daughters: Cathi A. (Werner), wife of Michael D. Mazaika, Mt. Airy, Md., Donna M. (Werner), wife of Dan R. Gordon, Centre Township, and Rita F. (Werner), wife of Thomas L. Krick, Perry Township, with whom she last resided.

There are two brothers, Clifford Ulrich, Shoemakersville, and Ricky Ulrich, Bernville; and three sisters: Patricia (Ulrich) Hoch, Tilden Township, Linda (Ulrich) Schappell, Milton, and Carlene Ulrich, Mount Penn.

Laura is also survived by 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her companion, Raymond Ovechka, Shoemakersville. There is a 10th great-grandchild expected in August.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald (Joe) Werner, who died in 1997; a daughter, Jacqulyn (Werner) Kemmerer, who died in 1984; a granddaughter, Danielle Kemmerer, who died in 1984; a brother, Harold Ulrich, who died in 1991; and a sister, Sandra (Ulrich) Long, who died in 2009.

Services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg (off-street parking in rear). Burial will be private in St. John's (Gernant's) Cemetery, Ontelaunee Township. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be sent to American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Dear Donna, Dan, Kyle & Ryan
Just a note, our hearts, love and prayers go out to you all at this time of loss. I'm sure you made a load of great memories to think back on.
