Martha Romano Obituary

Martha Romano, 88, Tilden Township, died March 3, 2009, at home.

She was the widow of Vincent G. Romano, who died March 30, 2004.

“Maggie” was one of 14 children, born in Midvalley on June 3, 1920, to the late John and Rose (Bruncuskie) Sacuskie.

She was a faithful member of the Hamburg congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She always appreciated their friendship as well as their many kindnesses towards her.

She is survived by her daughters: Loretta, wife of John Allen, York; Charlotte, wife of Russell Snyder, Reading; and Rose Kathryn Romano, also of Reading.

There are also four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Sadly, she was also predeceased by her grandson, Mark, when he was 26 years old.

Martha was known as a very kind and sincere person, compassionate to both people and animals. She was always a shy and modest person, not wanting any special attention.

In her modesty, she requested no formal services after her death. She just asked for her remains to be cared for by the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home Inc., Hamburg.

She had no fear of death, being confident of a future resurrection when she would be reunited with her family and friends. The promise at John 5:28-29 gave her that confidence.

My family has visited with Martha many times. Each and every time she was glad for the company. She really enjoyed seeing the children. I will never forget her smile and how she always offered either candy or cookies to the children. She was a really sweet woman.

I have many special memories of visiting Martha. She was always so gracious and sweet. My prayers and thoughts are with her family. I too look forwarded to seeing Martha again.
