Born in Paradise, PA, he was the son of the late Stewart E. and Lucille C. (Dubbs) Schaeffer.

Bergan, Boyertown; sister-in-law, Judy Mumbauer, wife of Larry Mumbauer, Quakertown; niece, Kelly L. Moyer, wife of Cary E. Moyer, Reading; nephew, Lt. Col. Kevin S. Bergan, husband of Jennifer Bergan, Abilene, TX; niece, Lorina Setman, Quakertown; nephew, Daniel Mumbauer, Quakertown.
Randy was the Valedictorian of Blue Mountain High School in 1968. At Kutztown University, he was a double-major in Mathematics and Theatre. He was nominated as the top senior by both departments. Randy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kutztown University in 1972 with a 4.0 GPA. He earned his MS in Math at Lehigh University and was ABD in Ed Tech.
Along the way, he started collecting Coca-Cola Memorabilia with his future spouse, Bill Bateman. Randy was acknowledged to be the #1 expert in the History and Advertising of The Coca-Cola Company. Currently, Randy and Bill are recognized as having the best private collection of Coca-Cola Memorabilia in the world. Their two books about Coca-Cola have been translated into over a half dozen languages.
Hired at Kutztown University and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Math, Randy taught undergrad and grad level courses in Math and Math Ed, and supervised Secondary Ed Math student teachers since 1980. He was the recipient of the 2013 Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.
He served on myriad committees, often as chair, such as campus-wide chair of Curriculum, General Education, and KU Senate President. His recent KU Commencement address in May 2014 has been acclaimed as the best such address in memory.
His tireless work ethic, congenial manner, quick smile, and sense of humor enriched life at KU, the world of Coca-Cola collecting, and anyone he knew.

Mr. Schaeffer was my professor at Kutztown and my advisor from 1990-1994. One time while he was observing me while student teaching I awkwardly put my hand on my hip and pointed at the answer and from the back of the classroom he began to sing "I'm a little tea pot..." He always made me laugh and put things into perspective for me when I was stressed out. I do not think there is a better professor or person than Mr. Schaeffer. He is the reason I continued with mathematics and am a teacher today. I visited him this past November and am so glad I did. As always he made me smile and took an interest in my life. I miss him so much already. Take care Mr. Bateman and family. I am thinking of you all.

Randy will be very missed at all the Coca-Cola conventions. I always looked forward to seeing the professors. I enjoyed the 2014 national convention and was so excited to see the both of you on my plane. Always enjoyed all our talks and the knowledge you gave me on Coke collectibles. You will be missed. Our prayers are with Bill and your family.

I had Professor Schaeffer for calculus at Penn State. What I remember most about him is his ability to explain things in plain language and to provide real world examples of why calculus is important (using a Coke can, of course). I really appreciated his style of teaching.
Rest in peace Professor Schaeffer. And may those close to you find peace in the memories they hold of you.
