He was the husband of Shirley E. (Gernert) Lytle.
He was born in Kutztown, a son of the late Dr. Clyde F. and Clara (Fenner) Lytle.
He was a graduate of Kutztown High School, Kutztown State Teachers College and Temple University.
He was a Navy veteran and was a instructor at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Richard D. Jr., husband of Deborah, Zionsville; Brooke G., Butler, New Jersey; daughter, Cynthia L., wife of Robert Tripp, Woodlands, Texas; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services Tuesday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home Inc., 346 W. Main St., Kutztown. Inurnment in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Pastor Dave Duquette officiating.
