Bernie, Carole, Jerone, JQ,and Maril;
We will always remember the many shared times our families spent together in worship and in fellowship. Words, no matter how eloquently put, can't ever express the deep sense of loss of a great man. May you all find peace and joy in knowing he served God with all of his might. We will miss "Rev" here on earth, but Glory be to God that his soul lives on.

To Marilyn and the entire Manning family.
Please accept my deepest sympathy in the passing of Rev. Manning. He was truly a mighty man of God. I always loved his quick wit and wonderful personality. I have so many memories of Rev. Manning. There was the Princess Street Shiloh, where he was always so kind and let our church (St. Paul in Columbia) use the baptismal pool. There are memories of him at Camp Central and at the Central Baptist Association. I even had the pleasure of being at St. John's in Reading several times. I even remember the day he and Mrs. Manning brought you to college at Cheyney University and how surprised and happy i was to see you at Cheyney. He was indeed a great man, who did his job here on earth, and did it well. Now earth's loss is heaven's gain. I know you and your family will miss him. I will keep you and yours in prayer. Much love to you and your family Marilyn.

To the Entire Manning Family,
My husband and I read with great sadness of the passing of Reverend Manning. He was a good man and a gentleman in the true sense. He gave those in contact with him the strength to try one more time, either by example or by advice. Through him I often found the strength to try one more time with that student I couldn't seem to reach. That student might find the strength to try one more time to get through one more day of school.
The community of York will miss Reverend Manning. I know that his family will miss him too. He was a wonderful man.
With deep sympathy,

To Rev. Dr Bernie, Carol, Jerome, JQ and the entire Manning Family, It only seems like yesterday that Carol was working as a Park Director over a Cordous Park and gave a little young kid his first job working with her helping out on the park. Thanks Carol...And then it was on to York High where I heard about this great runner named Bernie Manning and I met another Manning who sang with me at York High, Jerome thanks for your continued friendship over the years....JQ came after us, but he is still a friend as well, but what I am saying is their kindness, dedication and desire to succeed came from their Father, a man who touched so many people in his journey here on Earth. Rev Manning walked the walk, and with his kindness, he could talk the talk. Not lip service, but true love for his fellow man and woman. If you have never met Rev manning or been touched by him, maybe in another time, someone will come along, but if you were fortunate enough to meet this man in your journey, then you can say you were BLESSED. May GOD continue BLESSING the Manning Family as you all have BLESSED so many people. Rev Manning is looking down and smiling right now and saying to all of us, I helped build the foundation, now someone pick up the standard and finish the job....Take care and BE BLESSED, Louis McKinney, Sr

Rev. Manning (Pop-pop),
I will never forget you. From the early years growing up and learning from you. From the summers spent at your house in Gaffney with my grandmother Lucille. You are always and will forever be my pop-pop.
I remember when you first became ill and I looked at the pictures we took together over the years, you were always a strong father figure in the church and within the community.
You were always there, always available to guide and lend an ear. You were with my family when my Grandma Lucille passed away and your family helped us deal with our loss.
Ms. Irma Colston, God has great plans for you and will bless you immensly. Thank you for taking care of pop-pop.
To Uncle Jerome, Mrs. Carol, Dr. Bernie, Ms. Marilyn, Mr. JQ, and Ms. Lizzie, from our family to yours, we will continue to be here for you and will continue to keep you in our prayers. Pop-pop is at peace and will forever be missed.

Carole, Marilyn, Dr. Bernie, Sky, Miss Floyie, Sharon, Elaine, Novenia, Winona and entire Manning Family,
It was such a blessing to call Rev. Manning "Pastor". Many of my childhood memories are fond because they included him. I remember in the old Shiloh standing in line after service waiting for our hug from him EVERY Sunday. Somehow it seemed to make your week go smoother. He always showed so much love toward the children and the youth in a time when it was not popular. He had a way of sharing conversation with you that made you feel as if there was no one else who was important. Rev. Manning was the epitome of a "gentleman". As I grew up, I would see him from time to time in the Beaver Street Market and other places around town. He would always say to me, "Do you still love me?". I would laugh and say, "Yes Sir." Then he would smile back and say, "I'm just making sure." I have often asked family members in more recent years how he was doing. So much of who I am now is directly related to the ministry he instilled in me as a child. He will never be forgotten. I will always be thankful for the love we were shown.

I remember Rev. Manning walking through our neighborhood, engaging people as he shared that great smile, sharp wit, and his great knowledge of Jesus the Word of God.
I benefited from his wisdom at a time when I struggled with faith. His amazing insight, intelligence and genuine concern for me helped me navigate my way back to faith and a vital walk with God.
Thank you Reverend, I will miss the way you used to "just stop by to tell" us something God laid on your heart.
To the Manning family: May the Master's great love and comfort surround you all at this time. Reverend Manning is in the presence of the One he served so faithfully for so long.
Blessings,love,and peace,

We send our heart felt sympathy over your loss. Yes, Rev. Manning is one of the many greats and "the community" will miss him. He not only was Shiloh's Pastor at one time, he was always the "Community Pastor". He touched many lives over his lifetime and many lives were blessed because of him and his ministry. The many surely loved to talk, but in his talking he always concluded his conversation with a good word to carry you throughout your week and some words carried for a lifetime. May God bless all of you!

TO THE MANNING FAMILY
WHAT KIND OF MAN IS THIS WHO WALK LIKE JESUS AND TALK LIKE JESUS, THAT IS WAS THE EXAMPLE OF THE LEGACY OF REV. RICHARD MANNING. HE HAS TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES, THAT NO MAN CAN NUMBER. WE NEVER SAW HIM WITHOUT A SMILE AND WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND WISDOM TO
SHARE WITH US ,TRULY HE WAS A FRIEND AND A CONFIDENT, SOMEONE ANYONE COULD TALK TO AND FEEL THE WARMTH OF A CARING SPIRIT OF JESUS. HE WOULD PREACH AND THE WORD OF GOD BECAME SO REAL, AND AFTER HIS PREACHING, YOU HAD TO FEEL THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD. IF YOU DID NOT FEEL ANYTHING YOUR WOOD WAS WET. CHILDREN COULD UNDERSTAND HIS MESSAGE.MANY SOULS CAME TO JESUS BECAUSE OF
HOW HE PRESENTED THE GOSPEL, AND HOW HE LIVED THE GOSPEL DAILY.
MOST OF ALL HE LIVED THE LIFE HE SANG ABOUT AND PREACHED TO OTHERS. I'LL BE ALL RIGHT SOME DAY, WAS ONE OF THE SONGS HE SANG WITH CONVITION AND ASSURANCE.
HE IS ALL RIGHT NOW, HE LEFT US ALL WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE NEED TO DO SO THAT WE CAN PREPARE OUR LIVES TO MEET THE LORD,AND BE EMPOWERED WITH WISDOM FOR EVERY DAY LIVING. REMEMBER GOD'S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT, IN TIMES LIKE THESE, IN GRIEF AND SORROW. BECAUSE HE LIVES YOU CAN FACE TOMORROW. YOU WILL FIND COMFORT IN THE WORD OF GOD.
GOD'S TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER THAN TODAY, WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN WHAT A DAY OF REJOICING THAT WILL BE, WHEN WE ALL SEE JESUS WE WILL SING AND SHOUT THE VICTORY.

To Bernie, Carol, Jerome, JQ, Marilyn and all of us who knew and loved him we were truly blessed to be in his entourage. In turn he in ours.
I met Uncle Richard in 1953. He, and my Mother would impact my spiritual journey. This was to be the jump off point of one of the most important adventures I would have in my life. Praise the Lord!!
Uncle Richard showed me the way of laying the foundation of my spiritul life in the world as we knew it then.
He was the beacon in leading the way to silent change. In how we lived our lives, treated other, and practiced our faith.
No fan fare just go about your work, pray, and practice your faith and see what happens. Follow GOD's lead !
Take heart, he has "EARNED HIS PRIZE, "GLORY HAS ARRIVED""! Hallaulah" Amen"
Each of us who were within ear shot of Uncle Richard, were blessed to understand and incorporate his ability to reach out to others with empathy, generousity and understanding.
The weekly Bible study classes and BYTU where we were blessed to discover our faith through his guidance, words of wisdom that helped us along this journey called life. His voice had the sound of rushing water to me.
He was a man of small stature but of great courage, rethorical and writing ability, unequalled intellect and leadership abilities. Many CEO's today wish they possessed these abilities.
The acculades given on earth are a mire reflection of what awaits him when he sees his Saviors face!!
In his way, he was a shinig example of BLACK MANHOOD, BLACK FATHERHOOD, COMMUNITY CONSCIENCE, someone for the young men of the church to emulate.
But for me, someone who listened, encouraged, and gave me direction when I was lost. Heard me out, offered insight and sent me on my way with a prayer.
This was the Uncle Richard I knew and loved. Pushing me to explore my spiritual gifts and begin my personal spiritual Hjag.
What a journey it has been but without those sermons, moral, spiritual, parlimentary procedures learned, structure within the community of Shiloh, I fear where I could have strayed. Shiloh was a communtiy in every sense of the word.
Uncle Richard possessed an understated courage, he impacted all he meet, from the jail houses to so many, many church houses, he touced so many lives, on his journey.
To many of us he was FatherKind , Uncle, Cousin, friend, and confidante he showed love to many and many still love him in return.
This is one of the thing he told me so many years ago:
I Samuel 12:24
King James Version...
Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart, for consider how great the things he hath done for you.
My heart aches for this great soul who left us so soon.
My Mother was blessed to guide me to the opportunty to connect, to be a member of his entourage.
To meet and know the man who would introduce me to the love of our God and Chist... my soul is forever in his debt.....
Please excuse me for going on so, my heart is so full right now...

To the family of Rev Manning, our heartfelt condolences go out to you all. Rev Manning was an awesome man of God. My family had the priviledge of being under Rev Manning's leadership for many years, He dedicated us as babies, baptized us, performed marriages for some of us and always encouraged us. My siblings and I often talk about the good days growing up in Shiloh and how they somehow just dont make pastors like Rev Manning anymore. I know for a fact that when He made it home to glory, He saw my mother and many other Shiloh members and they rejoiced in the Lord together.
