He was the husband of Arline C. (Thomas) Thiry.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late George and Amanda (Miller) Thiry.
Richard was a 1942 graduate of the former Shillington High School. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during W.W. II.
After his military service, he worked as a Foreman for the former Reading Steel Products, Inc., and later retired 1986 from the former J & D Fabricator, Inc. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Grill. He served as Scout Master in Grill with Troop # 165. He was a lifetime member of the Grill Fire Company.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Kathleen A., wife of L. Thomas Hornberger, of Sinking Spring, PA; and sons: Thomas G., husband of Charlotte E. Thiry, of Stevens, Michael T., husband of Lisa J. Thiry, of Shillington, and John R., husband of Susanne L. Thiry, of Wyomissing.
There are also grandchildren: Kasie, wife of Scott Seymour, Tommy Hornberger, Jason, husband of Beck Thiry, Joel, husband of April Thiry, Michelle, wife of Greg Frisby, Timothy Thiry, Andrew Thiry, Brendan Thiry and Erin Thiry; and great-grandchildren: Olivia Seymour, Arlie Seymour and Emily Thiry.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton, PA, with Pastor Harry J. Goos, officiating. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home on Saturday. Inurnment will be in Yocom's Union Cemetery, Grill.
