He was the husband of Joan E. (Harris) Mest. Born in Reading, PA he was the son of the late O. Russell and Freda (Levan) Mest.
Mest had been employed by the Kresge-Kmart Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII.
Mest was a 1940 graduate of Reading High School and a 1949 graduate of Albright College.
He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Oley, where he served as Deacon, Elder, President of the Consistory and church Treasurer for many years.
He is also survived by two daughters, Dr. Nancy Mest, wife of Mark Gordon, Reading; and Susan Mest, Wyomissing, and a stepson, David Driscoll. Other survivors include a granddaughter, and two stepgrandsons.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
