God I can not believe it has been over a year since you have been taken from this world. Scott I remember when we use to play hide and seek on the block in the summer time and play basketball on the basketball court on the block. I remeber when you first brought your mustang gt 5.0 with your licsene plat Mcddady then you got your elcipse. I was always glad to see you when you came to visit your grand parents then when you became a police officer you would still come to the old block of carpenter street to check up on all of us. I remember the one time when I was wlking home from class the one night when I was pregnant wwith my second child came on the block and blew the horn at me and I would not answer you then you rolled the window down and said dont you know how to say hi... and I replied my mom told me to never talk to strangers then you asked how i was doing and said I was doing good and staying out of trouble. Trish and sons My prays are always with you and my hearts is with yous take care and God Bless You!

Scott,
It's 3 months today, I saw the reflections on ODP and I just could not bring myself to write overtop of Jared's post. Seeing your family in pain is horrible. We will continue to be there for Trish and the kids and continue to mourn for you together.
It's been a sad 3 months...
Missing you always.

Trish my name is Tony Grande I just found out a couple of days ago. I am so sorry and I'm at a loss for words. Scotty and I went to Wilson together and kept in touch off and on when I was home. I live in Italy and don't call home much so there was no way to know of your terrible loss. Keep your head up and think of your children when you feel down because they are the ones keeping his memory alive they will be the one important thing in your life that will help you get through this, plus all your memories will keep his spirit alive in you and your children. When I come home I would like to see you and give you my condolences in person. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask, Chuck L. knows how to get in touch with me. Your family is in my prayers. Trish, Jarod, Josh, Michelle & Chad,
I am still in shock. When I see his picture or hear his name I can't help but stop and think of him and say how much I still can't believe this happened to Scott. I am sure you all must be thinking the same (and more).
I had the honor of meeting Scott while he was in the acadamy. And I also got to share in the day he got his badge. I remember thinking being an Officer is diffently what Scott was meant to do. He smiled so big the night. He's a great man, I wish I could have known him better. As time went on things seperated our paths.
I can't even begin to think of what you are going through. I am praying for all of you. I hope you can begin to heal soon. May all the memories help you. I can only think that Heaven needed his help also! And only a Hero could help. God Bless!

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Wertz family. My husband is also a police officer, so I truly know what it's like to be the wife of an officer, I only hope I never find myself in the same situation you are facing. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

When all of this happened my family and I were on our second day of vacation, in Mexico.Which Scotty helped us plan. We were unable to come home because of tourist papers requiring us to stay in Mexico for at least 72 hours. Not only did I feel horrible enough becuase he's my godfather, but the fact that my family and I couldn't be there at his funeral or to support his family just adds on a ton of sadness. It is so hard to lose my godfather, but i am sure it is even harder to lose a husband or a father. I send my greatest sympathy to Trish, Jared, and Josh.
I will always love my Uncle Scotty.

I knew Scotty since I was 16, I live in Nevada now, my mother called me yesterday and told me the news. My son's father Scott Summers and I used to buzz around in our Camaros together. I remember when Scotty got his first Camaro, his grandparents bought it for him!!! He was such a sweetheart!! I saw him a week before I moved to Las Vegas which was one year ago. He stopped at my house and gave me one of his Reading Police Department Trading Cards. I am so devastated by his lose of life. He was a cute boy and grew up to be a wonderful man, husband, and father. My sympathies to his wife and children. God bless you all. Trish,
Remember when I told you at the viewing that you will get through this because you are a strong person and you answered that you were trying...well, the hardest part is over now, and you did admirably!
I'm sure as Scott was watching the proceedings of the last few days he would be surprised at all the outpouring of love and admiration that this community, and beyond, had for him. And the reason he would be surprised is that he would feel that he was just doing his job. No more and no less. He didn't ask to be a Hero and I am sure YOU never wanted him to be a Hero; but, suddenly, and tragically he became one...like it or not.
Now, unfortunately, someone gave you a new title to add to your name...widow. It's hard to say, it's hard to write, and it is even harder to be one. But, you are fortunate. You have hundreds of people who want to help you carry your burden. Take it from me...LET THEM HELP YOU! Don't ever be afraid, or too proud to ask for help to get through the hard times and believe me...they are coming.
I'll miss Scott, and that impish grin of his as he would scare the heck out of me (and all our neighbors) when Damon would make him turn on his siren in our driveway in Sinking Spring. That grin of his was contagious! When he smiled, you had to smile too, no matter how mad you got at him.
I promise you, in the weeks and months to come it will get better. Your heart will always be broken, but the pain will subside...little by little...as the time goes by. Just stay strong for your boys, and I know you can do it, because I saw you do it this past week. You are the ultimate role model for strength and dignity, and without a doubt, Scott would be so proud of you.

Wertz Family,
I meet Scott when I was dispatching part-time for RPD in 2000 - 2001 . I had the opportunity to have him assist me and my partner when I worked security at Jamestown Village. Scott was always smiling. When he would stop by on quite nights, we would talk about our wives and kids. He was a Hero at that time to me, because he never looked down us for being security officers.
My family will have you and your family in our prayers, always. Scott has a new assignment now. He is going to guide you and your children from heven.

I work 2nd shift at a law firm downtown, and being a young female, was sometimes fearful when leaving my Reed and Washington parking lot at night. I saw Officer Wertz many, many nights while I was driving home on his patrol. Even though I only physically met him once, he waved at me every time I passed him. His little half smile and wave made me feel safe. I am saddened to hear of his death, and want to pass along my thoughts and prayers to his family and thank him and all of the Reading police force for all that they do. This man obviously gave everything he had; to his family first, and his community a very close second. God Bless You, Scott Wertz, you were one of the great ones.

Tricia,
Please know that Dana and I are very sorry. It is hard to understand why these things happen to good people. One positive thing is that he loved what he did. Being a cop is not just a job, it's a calling. You have to love it or you just can't do it. Scott not only loved being a cop but he was a great one. He also loved his softball, I imagine somewhere in heaven he's getting a bunch of guys together for a game. Take care, Love Barb and Dana Potts

Keep his spirit alive in your boys. Remember "Footsteps in the Sand". He will carry you through the tough times. My prayers go out to you and your family.

My husband worked with Scott on the High Crime Unit and is how I met him. He is a wonderful/all around man/father/friend. I always enjoyed running into him at City Hall when I visited Barry. The sorrow you feel I understand to be incomprehensable. Our city was safer because of Scott and he is sadly missed but he has left some great memories too. If there is anything you need, any time, day or night......I am here. God Bless you and your sons.

My heart felt condolences to the Wertz Family, friends and police officers from the Peralta Family. It breaks my heart to see that Mr. Scott A. Wertz had to lose his life so that we can live a safe one. I am so sorry for his death and wish I could come up with the words that would make the Wertz family and Friends feel better again. I really wish this not to happen....... From my two Kids and Wife our deepest condolences to Mr. Scott A. Wertz Family, friends, and fellow police officers. Thank You so much. We appreciate your job and know all too well the fact that everyday a police officer puts on that uniform he might never come home again. Just know that even though for one reason or another we might always have lawless people out on the street, the good people will always overcome.

I didn't know Officer Scott Wertz or his family, but as I watched his services from my office building on Wednesday, I felt his loss. I felt sad for such a senseless act. I felt sad for his wife and boys who have lost him. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

To the Wertz Family:
Trish, though I do not know you, my heart felt condolences go out to you and your boys. I grew up with Scott and knew him when he would visit his grandparents on Carpenter Street. Scott was indeed a true friend and was very loveable and well liked by everyone he came across. Though he will truly be missed, he will never be forgotten. I will keep you, your boys, and the immediate family in my prayers. Remember he will be looking over you and the boys shoulders every waking minute of the day and while you are sleeping.
Remember John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
