Thelma B. Christman Thelma B. Christman, 94, formerly of Oley, passed away January 26, 2021, at The Highlands of Wyomissing. She was the loving wife of the late William P. Christman. They were married 65 years. Born in Pikeville, on October 4, 1926, Thelma was the daughter of the late Amandus Y. and Helen Y. (Bechtel) Reichert. She was a 1944 graduate of Oley Valley High School and a 1947 graduate of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. In 1947, she served in the World War II Cadet Nurse program stationed in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Thelma worked as a nurse at the Pottstown Hospital, retiring from the Oley Valley School District, Alsace Building, in 1988 as nurse/secretary. She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Oley, where she taught Sunday School, sang on the choir and was a member of the Woman’s Guild. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. Thelma enjoyed working in the garden with Bill, baking AP Cakes, spending time at the house in Maryland, water skiing and providing nursing care to her family and friends. Thelma is survived by a daughter, Karen, wife of Jeff Shearer, of Temple and a son, Kirk, husband of Sherry Christman, Fleetwood. She also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Yoder, husband of Sara, Orangeville; Lauren Yoder, Leesport; and Bryan Shearer, husband of Hilary Sech, Ledyard, CT; two great-grandchildren, Adelaide and Billy Yoder; and her brother, Amandus Reichert, husband of Frances. She was predeceased by her sisters, Viola Sheetz, Alma Reichert, and Evelyn Robertson. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the Skilled Nursing staff at The Highlands of Wyomissing and Grane Hospice for their loving care and compassion they provided Thelma.
