Thomas Gottschall Obituary

Thomas A. Gottschall, 79, of Spring Township, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, in his home with Eileen M. (Stavarski) Gottschall, his devoted wife of 57 years, at his side. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Albert Gottschall and Mary (Schultz) Gottschall. Tom was a graduate of Exeter High School, Class of 1960. He worked in the grocery business his whole life – a butcher by trade and owner of Little Apple Market in Allentown for 22 years. Tom was an avid baseball and softball player into his seventies. He loved dancing and listening to music with Eileen and their friends at local German clubs. Tom enjoyed traveling, visiting nearly all the Caribbean islands and most countries in Europe. He was a member of the Reading Liederkranz, the Evergreen Club, Keystone Fire Company No. 1 Bechtelsville, and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Lawn. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his son Aaron T. Gottschall, husband of Nancy A.; his daughter Lisa E. Gaffney, wife of Michael R.; his son Ryan T. Gottschall, husband of Sarah D.; his six grandchildren Alexandra, wife of Kyle Wilby, Marissa, Hannah, Ben, Miles, and Madeleine; and his siblings Janice Chappie, Lois Miller, Milton, Bruce, and Clay. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Mt. Penn, PA 19606. Under the current state of high regional Covid infection rate, the family would appreciate visitors wearing a mask during the indoor gathering. Interment will be at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 22324, New York, NY 10087. We are deeply sorry for your loss, Eileen. Tom was a good friend through the years. He was always up for lively discussion about politics and other hot button issues when we met at family picnics or on other occasions. Tom was always fun to be around and will be greatly missed.

Our prayers go out to the entire Tom Gottschall family. Tom was my friend from the old grade school in St.Lawrence, right through Exeter High! In our "Golden" years, some of us got together for our famous day trips! So many good memories. It´s an honor to call my friend! God Bless

Sending our love and sympathy to your family. We will not be able to attend the service on Monday. Barry is having knee surgery Wednesday unless it gets cancelled. We enjoyed visiting w/both of you some years ago hearing about your German trip and Tom's love of genealogy.
