Aleksandra Hollauer Obituary

WALLINGFORD - Aleksandra Bronislawa Czech Hollauer, 104, died peacefully, Friday, July 11, 2014, at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. She was the loving wife of the late George Hollauer.

Born in Nowy-Sacz, Poland, on August 10, 1909, she was one of eight children of Mikolaj and Franciszka (Krzystyniak) Czech. She was predeceased by her twin sister and all her siblings. She had vivid memories of World War I and spoke often of her childhood and school years in Gorlice, Poland.

She attended Pedagogium in Krakow, Poland and graduated in 1932 to begin a teaching career in Zawiercie and Poremba, Poland, which lasted until 1939, the beginning of World War II.

Aleksandra married George Hollauer, a widower with a daughter, in 1936, and together they had two children. During the war, the family was transported to Germany, and from 1945 lived in several different Displaced Persons Camps, where both she and her husband (also a teacher and artist) helped organize schools and taught classes.

With the help of a former pupil and sponsored by a Wallingford life-long resident, Thomas Tutak, the family came to the United States after World War II with her husband and children, Henry and Elizabeth. They arrived in the U.S. via Ellis Island, and two weeks before Christmas 1949 came to Wallingford. The older daughter and her family reunited with the rest of the family in the U.S. in 1961.

Aleksandra worked in Wallace Silversmiths and later Stanley-Judd, retiring in 1975.

Aleksandra was a life-long parishioner of Ss. Peter and Paul R.C. Church. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Bruno) Lakota, and Elizabeth Hollauer, of Wallingford; her son, Henry Hollauer, and his wife, Henrietta of, Norwalk; and her grandchildren, Mary Lakota, of Wallingford; Henry Lakota, and wife, Dorothy, of South Windsor; Anthony Niznik, of Norwalk; Helena Hollauer-Villacci, and husband, Gene, of Falmouth, Maine; Alexandra Hollauer-Piltch, and husband, Dan, of Freeport, Maine; and her great-grandchildren, Nadia Alghadyan, of New Britain; Joseph Alghadyan, of Wallingford; Jennifer and Kristina Lakota, of South Windsor; Audrey and Troy Piltch; and Mason Villacci, of Maine. She leaves many nieces and nephews in Poland.

Aleksandra, who had a wonderful sense of humor, joked that she lived to the age of 104 in good health, still able to walk, and had limited vision, not only because of good genes, but because she had doctors who had taken such good care of her over the years. She wanted to specifically thank Henry Hofbauer, M.D.; Alfredo Axtmayer, M.D., PCS; and John Redmond, M.D.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford.

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away
into the next room.
I am I,
and you are you;
whatever we were to each other,
that, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way
which you always used,
put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air
of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we shared together.
Let my name ever be
the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect,
without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all
that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.
All is well.
May she rest in peace. My deepest condolences Liz, you've done an amazing job taking care of your mom! God bless you, comfort you and keep you in his care.
Love
Anna
