Alexander Martin Obituary

Alexander Paul Martin, 65, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly, July 5, 2023, at his home.

Alex was born in New Haven, on January 23, 1958, a son of Leonard Martin, Jr., of Wallingford and the late Elizabeth (Luth) Martin.

Alex worked for the Connecticut Department of Transportation in the maintenance division. Alex was an avid Boston Red Sox fan who enjoyed watching sports. He also played softball for years in Wallingford. He loved sitting on his deck listening to music with his best friend, his brother John. He enjoyed camping and looked forward to opening day fishing with friends and family. He dedicated his life after retirement to taking care of his mother. Alex had the biggest heart and kindest soul. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving, besides his father are his brothers, John Martin of Hebron and Leonard Martin and his wife, Arlene, of Wallingford; his sister, Elizabeth Gogliettino and her husband, James, of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews.

Alex's family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 9 am until 11 am, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am, in the funeral home. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery will be private.

Rip Alex Prayers are up for Family and Friends for sure worked with Alex for 28 years a lot of laughs. He was my ramp man aka tail gunner on Rte 15 and tractor mower in the summer. He would come in after mowing in the open tractors all dusty like a little kid playing in mud. Loved Him a lot of fond memories for sure.

So Sorry, I just heard about Alex .Alex was a Great worker for me at the state St. Garage. He never complained about any job I gave him .yes he was Boston fan in a garage full of Yankee fans . When the Sox won the World Series I bought a championship hat and and I surprised him with it at a Monday morning safety talk . He couldn´t believe that I bought it for him , I told him that it´s for being a Great Sport taking all the ribbing from all the Yankee fans , that I wanted him to know I appreciated everything that he did when told to do something and taking all ribbing. I´m so sorry I didn´t know when he passed. Condolences to the whole family for a bad loss . Prayers & R.I.P.
Sincerely ;

To Lenny and the entire Martin family, so sorry to hear of Alex’s passing. I had the pleasure of working along side Alex, Lenny, and Alex’s dad Lenny at one time or another for Ct, DOT. Also played softball with all three for many years in North Haven. Alex was a quiet guy but had a heart of gold. He also was a hard worker and never complained . Alex will be missed but never forgotten as one can tell by reading all the memorials. Rest in peace Alex.

Hard working, fun loving, kind hearted and sensible; all with the power to knock it out of the park, especially the left field; that’s the Alex Martin I will always remember. Sorry for your loss; it’s a loss for all.

I had the pleasure of living across the street from The Martins since I was three years old. At one time or another all three boys were my best friend, but I spent more time with Alex in my young adult years than either Lennie or John.
Alex and I saw more games at Fenway than I can count, many times driving up on a weeknight and managing to go to work the next day. We saw many concerts together; artists from Harry Chapin to The Grateful Dead and all acts in-between. We also took Al's camper to Lake Placid and watched the athlete's final trials just before the start of the 1980 Winter Olympics.
We also shared an apartment in Yalesville for a couple of years. I don't think we ever had a cross word between us in the fifty-nine years we'd known one another. Alex always got along with everyone despite whatever shortcomings they may have had. That was Alex. He was truly a gentle soul (unless he popped-up in a big spot in a softball game, but we needn't go there).
I'll miss his incredibly unique sense of humor, his laugh, his smile, his wit, and most of all, his life-long friendship.
To Mr. Martin, John, Lennie, and Liz - my heart goes out to you all. Thanks for sharing your wonderful son/big brother with me through all these years - it's been a pleasure. I will miss him dearly.
Know that it isn't lost on me how you unselfishly dedicated your life to taking such good care of your Mom for all those years. She was a very special person as well, and like a second mother to all who befriended her children.
I love you, Al.

To Johnny, Lenny, and Liz
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Alex was a great person. He was kind, gentle and passionate about the things and people he loved. I had the pleasure of sharing many good times on and off the field with him that I will never forget. My deepest sympathies goes out to all of you.

Alex was a man of many layers.
He was quite unless you got to know him, then you realize how quick witted and funny he was.
He was a gentle soul unless you threatened him or his friends (ask Tim Browning).
He was a calm man unless the Sox were down a run in the bottom of ninth with two in scoring position.
Seemingly simple guy until you talked music or family with him. Alex was incredibly insightful using few words. A lot of time could pass between talking but when we did it was like no time had passed. A true friend.
Many layers; and I loved them all. A huge lose for all who really knew him.
RIP Alejondro.
Condolences, peace and love to the entire Martin family.
