Alfred DiNino Obituary

Alfred (Popi) Michael DiNino
Alfred (Popi) Michael DiNino passed away gently, on Friday, surrounded by his loving family at Mid-State Hospital in Meriden, CT.
Al was born (1934), raised, and lived in Meriden his whole life. He grew up on Woodland St., meeting his best friend Larry Jakiela there, before moving to Spring St. He graduated from Wilcox Tech (carpentry) and worked as a framer before starting his own company, A&B Construction, with his partner Robert (Bobby) Petrella.
He met and married the love of his life Beverly (Varley) of Southington and started his family of five children, raising them in a four-room apartment on Springdale Ave., before moving to the house he built in 1969 on Bee St, where he lived happily until his passing.
Along the way Al touched many lives: attending his children's football and baseball games at Washington Park, basketball at the Boys Club (which he supported all his life), and at Maloney and Wilcox Tech; making many lasting friendships. Through his business he built hundreds of quality homes throughout southern and central CT that still stand, and employed many skilled workers, friends and family members – all of whom came to admire and appreciate his hardworking, genuine, friendly, well-meaning manner.
He was a lifelong Celtics, Yankees, NY Giants and UConn girls basketball fan. Later in life, he enjoyed helping drive his granddaughter to school, attending grandchildren's events, watching them play in his pool, and sitting on his front porch with another lifelong friend, Sam Calabro, swapping grocery sales price finds and waving to friends as they drove by yelling "hey Al" on summer days.
Al was predeceased by his beloved wife, son (Ricky), brother (Tony), his sister Anna (Hansell), and many other cherished family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Lori (Conchado), sons Jerry and his wife Meishelle (Haverkamp), Steven, Robert and his wife Karen (Kuczynski), his grandchildren Kelsey, Anna, Nick, Dana, Nikki and Tony, grandson in-law Joe (Townsend) and family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Mt. Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT. Everyone is asked to meet at church. There are no calling hours. A private burial will be held. The arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. For online condolences, please visit jferryfh.com.
