Elina Sartucci Obituary

MERIDEN-Elina Margaret Sartucci, 102, of Meriden, passed away peacefully at the Bradley Home and Pavilion on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1912, in Meriden where she attended local schools and lived all her life. Elina, or "Lena," as she was known to family and friends, was the second of six children of the late Leopoldo Sartini and Giuditta (Bernardini) Sartini and was married for over 52 years to the late Pasquale (Pat) Sartucci. During World War II she worked at the New Departure plant in Meriden. After raising her children she returned to work, first at Stars Department Store in Wallingford, and later at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, remaining there until her retirement in 1977. The focus of her life was: family, friends, church and community. For years she and her husband, Pat, were the premier organizers of large family picnics and frequent get-togethers. They were always there for family and friends, and enjoyed their many siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews and each young growing family. They enjoyed travelling especially to visit children and grandchildren out West and wintering in Florida. Elina was a life-long communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Meriden. There she was involved for many years in church activities, especially the Mt. Carmel Society of which she was a past-president. Before she was slowed by declining health she was active in programs at the Meriden YWCA, at the Muravnick-Meriden Senior Citizens Center and in the Young at Heart group where she sang in its musical chorus.

She is survived by three daughters, Judy Sartucci, of Rocky Hill; Linda Clarke (Raymond,) of Goodyear, Ariz.; and MaryAnn Andrews (John,) of Lakewood, Colo. She leaves two grandsons, Michael Clarke, of Charlottesville, Va.; and Robert Clarke (Stacy,) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one great-grandson, Jaxson Clarke, of Phoenix, Ariz. She also leaves a sister, Olga Lamb, of Meriden; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Caroline Fantozzi and Rose Scappaticci; and by two brothers, Silvio Sartini and Louis Sartini.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Bradley Home for the wonderful "home" provided for her over the last 10 years; and to the nursing and care staff of the Pavilion for the excellent care she received.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave.in Meriden for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, 115 Lewis Ave., Meriden, CT 06451; or to The Bradley Home and Pavilion, 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451. For online condolences, please visit www.jferryfh.com.

Judy, Your Mom must have been a truly wonderful person to have had such a daughter as you. As I read about her, I could see where your own warm, giving personality came from. She lives on in you. Blessings, Loretta Dyson
