George Bozzi, Jr., D.D.S., J.D. Obituary

George L. Bozzi, Jr., D.D.S., J.D., died on July 4, 2021. He was the husband of Debra Marr Bozzi and father to sons Jevon and Conor. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Dr. George L. Bozzi, Sr. and Marie (Reiske) Bozzi. He grew up and made his home in Wallingford. A champion sprinter at Wesleyan University, he was the recipient of the 1975 J. Frederick Martin Martin Award for contributions to the Cardinals track team and Roger Maynard Memorial Award as the University's most distinguished scholar-athlete. After marrying his college sweetheart Debra and earning his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at NYU, George entered into the private practice of family dentistry with his father, before completing a Juris Doctorate from the University of Connecticut and transitioning to working with the state Department of Corrections as a dentist and as a representative for his union, District 1199 SEIU. Like his favorite Newfoundland rum, George was an acquired taste. Some found him warm and jovial, others harsh and abrasive; but those who knew him appreciated the unique blend of attributes that made him truly one of a kind. Never one to care for convention, George, much like Socrates, held that we ought to concern ourselves only with the opinions of those who matter. As such, George devoted his life to his wife and their sons. A steadfast believer in the ideals of the scholar-athlete, George routinely traveled the country to cheer on his brother John and sons Jevon and Conor in their respective careers as athletes, a commitment that carried over to the teams they coached. When not shouting from the stands, George was happiest sharing stories of adventures with his wife Debra, and their shared passion for travel and the theatre. Though he fell just shy of viewing the complete Shakespearean canon, and left a few hidden corners yet to be discovered, his final foot race was a sprint of indeterminate length against a Bedouin tribesman in the red sands of Jordan's Wadi Rum. George won. George is survived by his wife Debra; his sons, Conor and Jevon, and Jevon's wife, Sarah; his brothers John and David; sisters Caroline and Patricia; and was predeceased by his sister Katherine. George tolerated many, loved a select few, and leaves behind a wife and sons who continue to share his devotion to travel, the arts, and carefully-crafted witticism. Per George's wishes there will be no funeral or memorial services. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Civil Liberties Union (www.aclu.org). The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with George's final arrangements. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.BaileyCares.com
