Howard Lohmann Obituary

Howard A. Lohmann
Howard A. Lohmann, "Sr.", 89, husband of 54 years to Gail Diehm Lohmann, passed away at his home, in Meriden, on October 29, 2025. Born in Meriden on October 5, 1936, he was a son of the late Herman and Hazel (Maronde) Lohmann. Howard was predeceased by his brothers, Carl, Leroy, and Kenny Lohmann. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Howard Lohmann, his wife, Ivelisse, and their four children, Amanda, Brenden, Ariana, and Xavier; Hans Lohmann; and Erik Lohmann, his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Parker and Reed.
Born on the Chamberlain Highway during the Great Depression, Howard was the youngest of four brothers. As a lifelong resident of Meriden, he graduated from Meriden High School in 1954 and later was drafted into the Army. After his military service, he was employed by C.S. Mersick in their hardware division. After quickly moving up the ladder, he was promoted to L.L. Ensworth, a sister company, in Hartford, selling steel as well. In 1972, he left to start his own business, Logan Associates, from his barn, which later became Logan Steel Inc. While getting business off the ground, he had many side jobs to make ends meet, such as delivering newspapers, being a school bus driver, and a driver's ed teacher, as well as selling Christmas trees while drinking Rock & Rye to stay warm. He had a keen sense of business and, with the help of a strong network of vendors, he built a loyal customer base. As the business grew, Gail was able to leave her night job at Stanley Works and join Howard while raising their three young boys. Fifty-three years later, he left behind a very successful company, employing nearly one hundred people with the help of family, as well as Eddie, Z-Man, and many others.
Howard worked seven days a week, but when you couldn't find him at the office, he and Gail enjoyed time at their campsite in Canaan. He was an avid weekend golfer with his friends, Mark, Bobby, Chuck, and others over the years. Later in life, he fulfilled his dream of having a farm, where he raised animals, baled hay, and made wine alongside his family. Howard had many friends, including Billy "Rev," Tony, Nitsche, Muzzy, and Donnie, among many, many others. He was a fixture of the Meriden community, a member of the Eagles and the Lions Club, and well-respected in the steel industry. He will be greatly missed.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Howard's family on Sunday, November 2nd, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will follow at 5:00 p.m. Those wishing to donate in Howard's memory can do so to the Franciscan Sisters of Meriden, at 405 Allen Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. I know my dad was there at the gates of heaven to meet his baby brother! When Howard began his business out of his garage, my dad would go over to visit and just give his support. My dad always talked of how proud he was of his brother!
We are so proud of all that Howard accomplished in his lifetime; the steel business, raising a family dedicated to family values, and his support of the land and farming. We feel your pain as he had to leave this earthly body, but I know he will be watching over all of his family, and his business! He will still be with you all!

I have had the pleasure to know and work under the leadership of Mr. Lohmann Sr, at Logan Steel Inc. for 4 years now.

The dedication and hard work that Mr. Lohmann put into his business, well into his 80's was very admirable.

I thank Mr.Howard Lohmann Sr. for allowing me the opportunity to work at Logan Steel Inc, and for his generosity and kindness.

My condolences to the Lohmann family.
