James Tabor Obituary

Mr. James C. Tabor Sr., 79, of Narragansett, R.I. and formerly of Cheshire, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Mae (Richard) Tabor, former Town Clerk of Cheshire.
Mr. Tabor was born in Littleton, N.H., Nov. 12, 1927, a son of the late Harold and Olga (Irons) Tabor and was a graduate of Colby College, class of 1951. He had been a Cheshire resident for over 50 years, prior to moving to Narragansett, RI. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. with over 35 years of service. While a Cheshire resident he had been a member and past President of the Jaycees and was a former Commissioner of the Park and Recreation Dept. and a member of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire. The family would like to express special thanks to Will and Kristen Cushing and Tracy Weber-Tierney for the care given to Mr. Tabor.
Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves two sons, Richard Tabor of New York City and James Tabor Jr. of Cheshire; two daughters, Dorcas Prior of Cheshire and Dana Menzies of Woodbridge; one sister, Jane Tabor of Guilford; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South. Main St., Cheshire to the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Drive for services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the procession leaves for church.
