Jill Huie Obituary
Jill was born in Orford, N.H., and was lovingly adopted by the late Langdon and Hazel Fernald of Wallingford. Jill grew up in Wallingford and enjoyed her Wallingford roots and followed in her father's footsteps becoming an educator. She taught for almost 30 years in Wallingford, for much of that time at her beloved Moses Y. Beach Elementary School. She loved her "kids" and encouraged them to find their passion in life, sneaking in art projects whenever possible.
Jill is survived by her life partner of 25 years, Catherine Ahern, of Middletown; her son, Jeffrey Huie; and her two grandchildren, Jeffrey Douglas Huie, of Massachusetts and Taylor Huie, of Wallingford. After her retirement she researched and found her sister Lorette Witham, of Somersworth, N.H. Together they found their biological mother Mary and shared two good years with her. Jill enjoyed many gatherings with her sister Lorette over the past 15 years, sharing time with new found nephews David and Daniel Witham and their wonderful family and friends. Jill also leaves behind many other wonderful family members, good friends, neighbors, and supportive colleagues.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Sunday, April 14, from 3 until 4:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held in The Wallingford Funeral Home at 5 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave, Meriden, CT. 06450, or to Moses Y. Beach School, 340 North Main St., Wallingford, CT., 06492, to assist with student activities or for the school library media center.

I have been saddened to learn of Ms. Huie's passing. I grew up 2 houses away from her, Catherine and Jeff. We lived in a Rock Hill neighborhood so I wasn't fortunate enough to have her as a teacher, but remember her fondly. My heartfelt condolences to Catherine and Jeff along with the rest of the family.

Jill Huie was so supportive of my riding and I have kept every single one of her cards because each one was an inspiration. She was never my teacher but I still managed to learn a great deal from such a giving and loving woman. My deepest sympathies for Cathy.

Dear Cathy and family. My son and I have just returned to our beloved Wallingford. He attended MYB , I was on the PTO . Jill wasnt just a teacher she was a treasured friend to the parents and PTO members. She was the kind of person you felt you knew your whole life. Cathy I never met you but I know you must be a wonderful person. I am glad she found her sister and birth mother to complete her life's circle. I am so sorry for your loss.

Cathy, you have my sincere sympathy
on the passing of our friend, Jill Fernald, at whose parents home I lived
for five years while teaching at Lyman
Hall High School in the late fifties and early sixties. Jill was attending
Willimantic College at that time, but we shared many happy weekends and vacations together. Since then our sporadic meetings have been few but always pleasant, and I shall recall her
as a very special person in my life.

It is with sadness that I read of Jill's passing. Though I have had but one contact with her in my adult years, she and her parents lived across the street from my family in Wallingford and was a
challenging foe in our snowball fights across the street-she usually won. I see how special she became to so many over the years. May she rest in peace.

I had Miss Huie for English in 5th grade in 1993 at MYB. I remember when she would talk about basketball. She loved the Tennessee woman. Also she read lot of Maya Angelou poems. RIP you will be missed

I had the great pleasure of knowing Jill, and she was such an interesting person to talk to. I met her mother-in-law Janet who lived to be 100. She was remarkable as well. To my cousin Cathy: I couldn't believe it about Jill. I am so sorry to hear about her loss but she was such a lovely person, and we have to remember the good times with her, and the love that she had for all of us. Jill was a very kind hearted person who never gave up on a friendship. She was the first person to show up at a gathering with a camera and she recorded the lives and fun times for many of us. She was perceptive of the needs of others and often said "You need a hug!" She was always persistent and became the #1 Connecticut fan of Pat Summit's Tennessee Lady Vols. This was not easy to do while living in UCONN territory. I will always remember her smile, her laughter and her loyalty. To Cathy and the family, I extend my sympathy at this great loss.

Ms. Huie was one of those teachers who you never forget no matter how many years may pass. I think of her every time I see a hot air balloon because she always talked about them in our class. Jill had a zest for life. She loved to explore and have new adventures. To say that she had a caring heart is an understatement. I knew Jill for 30 years and have always admired her determination. Her knack for meeting new people wherever she went was part of the fun for her. Jill will be sorely missed. Our hearts and sympathies are extended to Cathy, Jeff, and her grandchildren. She has certainly left us with fond memories and logs of stories to tell!!
