Joan Ginter Obituary

Joan Alyce Ginter
8/11/2024
Wallingford - Joan Alyce Ginter, 89, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home. Joan was born in New Haven, CT on August 21, 1934, a daughter to the late Charles and Jesse (Gilbert) Vogelsang. She graduated in 1952, from Wilbur Cross H..S in New Haven, CT. She was active in regional Methodist Youth Fellowship activities, beginning in high school and then for many years following, where she made lifelong dear friends. She worked for several years for CT Coke Co., prior to marrying William Ginter of North Haven in 1957 and raising 3 children. She also worked for more than 35 years for the Dime Savings Bank of Wallingford, with both part-time and full-time positions, primarily as a customer service representative. She was known for her genuine personal warmth and giving spirit, endearing her to all who knew her. This was derived from her upbringing in the Vogelsang and Gilbert families, who were noted for this personal warmth and affectionate character. She was a wonderful, loving and caring mother, nana, great-nana, aunt, cousin and friend, and was always willing to help others. She had a tremendous empathy for anyone who was experiencing trials in life. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church for 60 years, a member of the local senior center for 30 years and a member of the Moose Club for 20 years. She was an avid card player, sharing with close friends in the weekly Saw Mill Heights Bridge Club for 40 years, as well as the Supper Club Group, which played setback, monthly, for over 20 years. She enjoyed travel, UConn basketball, collecting knickknacks, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Joan is survived by her son, William C. Ginter and his wife Mary Ellen of Wallingford, as well as her daughter, Deborah Ginter and her partner Steven Thody of Middlefield. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who she dearly loved, often showering them and many other relatives (related and adopted) with gifts and acts of service. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her son, Barry Ginter, sister, Lois Wolfe, and grandson, Michael Atwater. A Memorial Service and burial will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, 941 Old Rock Rd. All are welcome to attend a visitation at the church prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford or the Franciscan Hospice Care of Meriden, CT. Mrs. Ginter was like a great aunt to us, and was my Grandmother's best friend, always with a smile on her face and twinkle in her eye regardless of the circumastances. She was a blessing to be around and to know.

Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the grieving family.

Mrs. Ginter was a lovely and caring friend, one with whom I enjoyed talking. We started a special friendship, during COVID, when we called each other to see how the other was doing, or if we had news, to share; sometimes, just to say "hi." She had a loving heart, devoted to God and her family. God Bless and Keep her always. With sincere sympathy, to the family. Love you, Mrs. G.
