Joseph Modena Obituary

HAMDEN - Joseph Modena, 84, of Sheahan Drive, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008, at his daughter's home in Wallingford. He was the husband of the late May Eleanor Miniter Modena.

Born in New Haven on May 24, 1923; son of the late Giacomo and Giovannina DeMonaco Modena. Joseph was a truck driver for many years for the former Helms Express now Ryder Pie of Wallingford, and was a member of the Teamsters Local #443. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was the father of Cheryl (Joseph) Schmidt of Wallingford and JoAnn McLane of Hamden; grandfather of Jennifer (Andy) Salzo, Crystal Schmidt, Brandon and Ryan McLane. He was predeceased by brothers, Frankie, Mickey, Tony and Johnnie Modena; and sisters, Rose and Lucy Modena, Mary Cascagne.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 a.m. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the All Saints Mausoleum. The visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 pm.
