Joyce Quigley Obituary

Joyce E. Quigley, 80 of South Main St., Wallingford, CT, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late John Quigley, Sr. She was born in Schenectady, NY, to the late William F. Scherer and Anna P. Fitzpatrick in 1942. Joyce attended the Blessed Sacrament school and graduated from Cathedral Academy in Albany, NY. She was married to the late Thomas F. Haggerty and had a daughter, Lori Lee. She worked as an accountant for the Delaware and Hudson Railway for many years prior to moving to Wallingford. She was known for her fun personality, which enriched her many adventures with her husband John, the Quigley & Wasilewski families, as well as the Haggerty & Scherer families and friends in the Albany metro area in the years before moving to Wallingford, where she also developed a community of friends. She loved to travel, taking beach trips, going to the horse races in Saratoga, NY and numerous backyard parties with the families and friends. In her later years, Joyce was a long-standing member of both the Wallingford Democratic Town Committee as well as the Center Street Cemetery Association. She was also a member of the Wallingford Senior Center. Joyce participated in the election process, starting out with absentee ballot counting and then moving up to working at the Senior Center. She enjoyed her field trips with her friends from the Senior Center. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, John Quigley, Sr. and her two brothers, William Jr. and Robert Scherer. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Lee Haggerty of Tacoma, WA, stepsons John "Jay" Quigley (Caroline) of Wallingford, Richard Quigley (Linda) of Wallingford, stepdaughter, JoAnn Wallace of New Britain and 6 step grandchildren, Jay Jr., Eric, Sandra, Spencer, Justin, and Dana. She is outlived by a lifetime best friend of 50 plus years, Patricia Bowen Mojack of Stuart, FL. Thank you for keeping her company on the nighttime calls and for all the great memories. Lori Lee would like to extend a special thank you to the Quigley family - Ricky, for his generous time and support he gave Joyce throughout the years following John's death and to Jay, Caroline, Linda, and JoAnn for their loving care and including her in their lives. I am forever grateful to you for all you did for my mother. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org or the Wallingford Senior Center, 238 Washington St., Wallingford, CT 06492 (203) 265-7753, https://www.wlfdseniorctr.com No funeral or memorial service is planned. Please, Lori, accept our deepest condolences on your mother´s passing. Joyce was a great neighbor and friend. She was the mayor of South Main Street and looked out for all of us. We will miss her vitality, her intelligence, her wit, and her tenacity. Mostly, we´ll miss her laughter. Goodbye, friend. -Rita and Dave Owens

My condolences Lorilee. You know all the memories of special, fun events and parties we all had in years past in Albany, Troy and Springfield, and Wallingford. She was a great lady and fun host. We had many laughs, especially at her backyard parties. You were a great daughter to her. May she rest in peace.
