Judy A. Costa

Judy A. Costa, 79, of Meriden passed away at MidState Medical Center on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. She was the devoted wife of John her husband of 52 years. Judy was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Reginald and Eileen Downing.

Judy was a graduate of North High School and Nasson College of Springvale, Maine, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1964 and the University of Connecticut with a Master of Science degree in 1968.

She was a teacher at Lyman Hall high School in Wallingford as a Consumer and Family Science Teacher (formerly known as Home Economics). She retired in 1999 after 35 years. It was at Lyman Hall she met John her husband.

At Lyman she was Department Chairman for a number of years. She was very active in a number of programs; AFS (American Field Service), Student Assistance Team, New England Associations of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Evaluation and construction of numerous costumes for school plays.

As a long term Cancer survivor, she was very active as a volunteer and conducted numerous workshop training sessions.

In addition to her husband, she leaves many cousins and friends. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from Masonic Hospice Staff and the Right At Home Agency and their numerous care givers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 9th, 2021 at 11 am at the First Congregational Church, 37 Main St. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday, Aug. 8th from 2-5 pm at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
