Mildred Rossi Obituary

Mildred L. Domenica Rossi, 99, departed from this life on March 25th, 2021, peacefully at home in the presence of her family.

Mildred was born in Windsor Locks, CT on January 11, 1922 to the late Andrew and Maria (Sartori) Rossi.

She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, becoming a secretary extraordinaire. She began her career with the former C.F. Wooding Co. and the Wallingford Board of Education. Mildred then served as the executive assistant for four former presidents at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital (Mid-State) from 1952, until her retirement in 1987.

Mildred was a former director of the Permanent Savings & Loan Association of Meriden, and a former corporator of City Savings Bank. She was also a member of the board of governors at Mid-State Medical Center.

Mildred was a charter member of the Wallingford Business and Professional Women's Club and received the Woman of the Year Award in 1977.

She wrote a history about growing up in the South Elm Street section of Wallingford, on record at the Wallingford Historical Society and in the Wallingford Library.

She was known for being extremely talented as an artist and enjoyed painting her own greeting cards. She also loved to sew, doing family mending needs, which she referred to as "spot-welding". She was a member of the Wallingford Art League and was also a member of the Wallingford Historical Society, the Church of the Resurrection Women's Guild and the Wallingford Historical Preservation Trust.

Mildred traveled extensively in Europe. She especially loved visiting the "Heidi" like villages of the northern Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, where her parents were born. She was also particularly fond of spending the winter months at the family's condo in Hillsboro Beach, Florida with cherished friends. She felt blessed to have her loving family and so many who made her days a happy place.

Mildred is survived by her sister, Julia R. D'Agostino; nieces Dr. Andrea (Reed) Gelzer, Ruth D'Agostino, Mary (William) Pohl; nephew Peter (Barbara) Rossi; grandnephews Matthew, Andrew, and George Gelzer, Alexander Robles; grandniece Julie Robles.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on June 5, 2021 at the Church of The Resurrection in Wallingford. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. It is suggested that contributions in her memory be directed to the charitable agency of one's choice.

I never had the opportunity to meet Millie however, I get to see her lovely artwork every Monday at the Silver Museum at the Johnson House in Wallingford. Millie did 6 lovely paintings of the homes owned by the Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust. These are on display at the House alongside the recent obituary & picture of Millie. We appreciate being the recipient of her work which is on permanent display. We send our condolences to the family.
