Nancy McNeil Obituary

MERIDEN - Nancy E. (Barnes) McNeil, 70, of Meriden, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 8, 2017.

She was born in Norwich on Nov. 12, 1946, the daughter of the late William and Eleanor Ryan Barnes of Voluntown. Nancy was a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut, where she earned her bachelor's of science in physical education in 1968. She continued her education earning a master's and 6th-year degree. She worked for more than 35 years as a physical education and health teacher for the Waterbury Public Schools until her retirement.
She loved golfing, bowling, and softball, and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH). A passionate sports fan, she loyally rooted for her favorite teams, particularly the UConn Huskies, the New York Yankees, and the New York Giants.

Nancy, a beloved mother and grandmother, is survived by her sons, Todd McNeil and his wife, Jacqueline, of Meriden and Ryan McNeil and his wife, Courtney, of Bluffton, S.C.; and her six grandchildren: Amaya, Aliana, Ashlee, Graham, Henry, and Theodore.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Tuesday, June 13, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. May Nancy Rest in Peace. I played softball with her many years ago. One of the best people I have ever known. Always a smile on her face, and kindness in her heart. May God's Light shine upon her, and may her family find peace in her passing.
