Paul MacKnight Obituary

Paul David MacKnight
Paul David MacKnight, 84, of Cheshire, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 20, 2025. Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, on March 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Evelyn and Marks MacKnight.
At age 14, Paul moved with his family to Meriden, CT, where he attended local schools and graduated from Platt High School's first class in 1959. He later earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Laurel Business School. Paul dedicated 35 years to the Record Journal Newspaper, with his career briefly interrupted by his service in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Seoul, Korea.
An avid sports enthusiast, Paul played baseball, basketball, and softball in his youth and adulthood, participating in various local teams. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Browns, and Atlanta Braves. Paul also enjoyed woodworking, yard work, and solving The Jumble in the newspaper. A true homebody, he cherished spending time with his family and tending to his home.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jorris (Buck) MacKnight of Cheshire; his daughter, Ann Wilson, and her husband, Stephen, of Mentor, Ohio; his son, Cory MacKnight, and his wife, Jackie, of Haddam Neck, CT; his grandchildren, Justin and Tyler Wilson, and William, Ryan, and Colton MacKnight; his sister, Marie Olson, of Sebring, FL; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Morris and Lynn Buck, of Carolina Shores, NC; his nephews, David Buck and his wife, Tamra (French) Buck, of Southbury, CT, and Matthew Buck and his wife, Marianne, of Richmond, Rhode Island; and a great-niece and great-nephew in Southbury, CT.

Couldn't meet a nicer guy (and a pretty good softball player to boot). He'll be missed.

Paul was a wonderful man who I enjoyed working with during my time as a sportswriter and reporter for the Record-Journal in the late 1970s to the mid 1980s. He was kind, a terrific athlete and a gentleman of the first rank.
