MERIDEN - Phyllis (Menard) Guilmette, passed away quietly, surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017. She married the love of her life, Emile Raymond Guilmette, who predeceased her in 2015 after more than 50 wonderful years of marriage.

She graduated from The Jesus Mary Academy, Fall River, Mass., class of 1954. As a young woman, Phyllis loved to dance and was widely considered the life of the party. She was a longtime resident of Meriden and parishioner of Holy Angel's Church. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, canning, karaoke, knitting and sewing. She made all of her own dresses. Phyllis was a member of the Red Hat Society and participated in The Young At Heart at the Meriden Senior Center. Phyllis dedicated her life to loving and raising her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Celeste Martowski and her husband, Frank, of Durham; three sons, Brian Guilmette, of Australia, Conrad Guilmette and his wife, Stacey, of Southington, Edward Guilmette and his wife, Julia of Franklin, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Aaron, Danielle and Noah Guilmette, Zachary, Alexis, Joshua, and Nadiya Martowski, Kristie and Hannah Guilmette, and Henri and Isabel Guilmette; and two great-granddaughters, Cadence and Melodie Guilmette. She held a special place in her heart for her cousin, Florence Orton; and best friend and sister-in-law, Claire Guillemette. Phyllis was predeceased by her son, David Guilmette.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, Sept. 18, at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady Queen of Angels, Holy Angels Campus, 585 Main St., South Meriden, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Aunt Phyllis, there has always been a strong bond between our families with your and Mom's great friendship and Dad and Uncle Ray being close brothers. Some of the best memories of my childhood were our trips to New England and especially visiting your family. I will miss but never forget your ebullient personality, your beautiful smile, your sense of fun, your true beauty, inside and out. I see your and Uncle Ray's great qualities in the living legacy of my cousins. You have been a blessing to all of us who have come to know and love you.

We have many memories of the Guilmette family from years ago. When we moved to So. Meriden some 50 years ago, Phyllis & Ray received us as tenants in their home and our children played together establishing relationships to this day. A light has gone out but her spirit still shines as we remember and celebrate her life among us. Thank you Phyllis for being a friend. May the assurance of the faith we share together be a source of comfort and strength for all her beautiful family. Much love, Helen & Alden Barnes
