Pierre Wolff Obituary

WALLINGFORD-Pierre M. Wolff, Episcopal Priest and Jesuit Priest at heart, and beloved husband of Mary Morgan Wolff passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.  Born in Marseilles France on Nov. 2, 1929, he lived through World War II, served as a French Jesuit priest, giving the Spiritual Exercises and retreats to the Sisters of St. Joseph and lay people.  In the early 70's, Pierre came to the States to do the same type of ministry with many communities.  In 1988 Pierre married Mary; they made their home in Wallingford; and later he became an Episcopal priest, continuing his ministry and authoring numerous self-help books pertaining to living in Love.
In addition to his wife, Pierre is survived by four cherished nephews and their families.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Masonicare Home Hospice and Right at Home in-home care and assistance.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N. Main St. in Wallingford.  Donations in Pierre's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT chapter, 200 Executive Blvd, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.  Pierre's body has been donated to Quinnipiac University School of Medicine.

Dear Mary,

It does not seem possible that Pierre is entering his 5th year of eternal life. Likely, the possibility is directly connected to the reality that he is always here with us...in multiple remembrances held in joyful gratitude. Jean and I will never forget Pierre's giftedness in sharing life with us. The sharp edges of loss are continually being honed to gentleness with the passage of time. Yet, we miss him. Shalom and love, Fran...and Jean, too!

I think of Pierre so very often. I was with him mostly on our nine retreats together. I find myself talking about him so often at our weekly Centering Group. As I said in my first note when I heard about his entry into the Total Kingdom, I never met anyone so gifted by God in the area of discernment. I so needed him to make my decision to get married. He helped to free me from the Canonical chains which so tightly bound me. Like the Scriptures said about Jesus, Pierre went about doing good. He was so all accepting. I so frequently hear his words to me and see his joyous smile. I loved him so much then and I love him more now. I frequently talk to him asking him to bring me the peace he had and now has in fulness. Ah qu'il est bon le bon DIeu.He gave me OUR Pierre. I am eternally grateful for God's gift to me/us.

Pierre is ever present in our minds and hearts...and in the stories we tell about his unique giftedness as a spiritual director. I did not know him as well as Jean, who was graced to be one of Pierre's directs. With Pierre's gentle guidance, Jean could finally come to discern with deep peace what his next step in life would be. We remember well that time...the man...the goodness...the trust....the compassion. Who could ask or receive anything more? So, we pray to St. Pierre for continued guidance along life's way. This is from me, Fran. Jean will offer his own tale, I'm sure. With deep love, Fran Salone-Pelletier

Mary,

Please accept our deep sympathy. Pierre was a wonderful man. He, along with a few lay people, led a series of retreats for Christian business people at the Mercy Center. The retreats were incredible and I still hear from people who participated.
Pierre also led me throughout the Spiritual Excercises of Ignatius which he insisted must be done at my office - awesome!
I never knew whether to call Pierre "simply profound or profoundly simple"!
He was a great man!

Dear Mary,

My condolences to you and all of Pierre's family and friends. I was privileged to have known Pierre in the early 90s when he lead me through the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius at Christ Church, New Haven. A phrase of his comes frequently to my mind, "'Should' is not in my God's vocabulary." He celebrated a Mass there in French with me as acolyte. Years later after I moved to Wallingford I was happy to run into him at the Stop-n-Shop in Wallingford. Bob Gillis's wife Jane works with me at the Beinecke Library, and I had heard from Bob recently about you and Pierre. My heart and prayers go out to you and for you and Pierre.

Dear Mary,

It's with a heavy heart that we send condolences on the passing of Pierre. Before we even met you, we knew you through Pierre's descriptions of his beloved Mary. We are remembering the times we shared and the blessings of our friendship with you both. Twenty-one years ago your husband directed our journey on the Spiritual Exercises; still we recall his insight, clarity, and discernment that continue to inspire us. Pierre was God's instrument teaching and modeling the power of His love.

With arms around you from afar, we send our love.

What I will miss most about Pierre is his wholehearted acceptance of each person as a unique human being. Secondly, I will miss his enlightened discernment. I gained a deeper sense of freedom from his spiritual direction...as well as a profound sense of God's love for me and for all God's creation. His smile is embedded in my spirit. His love empowers my own.

Shalom, my dear friend. I love you.

We are so very sorry for the loss of such an inspirational man. He had a profound way of touching, not preaching to, the soul when he did services. We will forever remember his kindness and love for all. Agape. May you find some comfort in knowing that he touched so many with his words, actions and smile. Wishing you God's peace. - The Guido Family

My heartfelt prayers and condolences to Mary and the rest of Pierre's family at this difficult time. Pierre was a great man and this is not only a loss for the family, but as Pierre made himself available to so many others, sharing their spiritual journeys, it is a great loss for us as well. May he rest in peace and rise in glory! Mary, may you find comfort in knowing that friends, wherever we may be, carry you in our hearts at this time!
