Richard Toth Obituary

Richard Michael Toth, 73, a lifelong resident of the Meriden-Southington area, died Saturday, November 4, 2023, after a brief illness.

Richard was born and raised in Meriden. He was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Toth. He was a teacher in the Bristol public school system for more than 30 years until his retirement. In more recent years, he developed a keen interest in art and became an incredibly knowledgeable art dealer. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Boston Red Sox. In addition to being a fan, he was a huge trivia buff with an encyclopedic knowledge of both sports and music.

He is survived by his son, Zachary Toth and his partner Melody Peppers. He is also survived by his brother Patrick and his wife Hildegard of New York, his brother John and sister-in-law Brenda of Cheshire, and his sister Mary Ann Corcoran and her husband John of Dedham, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Beth Toth; his longtime life partner, Jane Jaffa; and his brother Andrew F. Toth.

Warmest condolences to all Richard’s loved ones on his brief yet difficult illness and passing. I only had the pleasure of meeting Rick (and Zack) once and father and son were both warm and charming. Special thoughts to my dear friend Mary Ann. We both share our love for our brothers. In Greek when someone dies we say “Memory Eternal” because so long as we remember those who have gone, they remain in our heart.

Condolences to all who knew & loved Rich, very sorry to hear of his passing & pleased to read of his being a life exceptionally well lived. I knew Rich at Platt High in Meriden. Very quietly Rich was, I suspect, often the smartest guy in the room. The gates of Paradise will open for you Rich, great soul.

Rick was a very special friend to me these past 10 years. We were each others sounding boards and dinner, hiking, and movie partners. He always looked forward to my Xmas cookies and home cooked dinners too. He was a very good friend and I will miss our weekly phone calls. Rest in peace Dear Rick.

You were the last one to remember with me; long ago days, and the children when they were young. Rest in Peace Rick: Christmas will never be the same.
Love to Zack and all the Toth family.

There were very few topics that he Didn´t have exacting knowledge about, he could discuss trivia and facts and history to such a deep level, which is impressive for the fact that his knowledge about world predates the internet. But ultimately so very many memories, he was Dad and he will be missed
