CLERMONT, Fla. - Robert P. Barrows, 91, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 in Clermont., Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma (Perkins) Barrows; his daughters, Joanne Barrows (Kevin Beauregard) and Nancy Canducci (John Canducci); and his grandchildren, Emma, Katherine and John.
Born in New Hampshire, he spent his early childhood in North Weare, N.H. After his home was destroyed by the New England hurricane of 1938, his family moved to Newton, Mass. He served as a corporal in the 13th airborne division of the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Barrows earned a bachelor's degree from Boston University and an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Norma Perkins. He worked as a Safety Director at Olivetti Underwood, American Cyanamid and Waterbury Hospital. He went on to become a professor of Safety Engineering at the University of New Haven. He moved to Scottish Highlands in Leesburg, Fla., in 1986. He was very active in the community and served on the Scottish Highlands board of directors and volunteered for the Sheriff's department. In 2014 he and his wife moved to Clermont, Fla., to be closer to their daughter, Joanne. Bob was a brilliant man who genuinely loved people. Even though Alzheimer's stole his memory, it was never able to take away his sharp wit and sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held on June 5, at 3 p.m. at the Benton House of Clermont. Fla. Online condolences may be left at ww.beyersfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, Fla.
