Its been 10 years now. WOW. Bobert, as I called him in high school, had always had that great sense of humor. He was a free spirited kind of guy. We had many great times while in HS and after years later when I found out he was in the Bridgeport area where I now live. We caught up and relived older times. He will not be forgotten. RIP dear friend.

It was a shock to hear of Rob's passing. A guy with whom I shared many a laugh during our days together at UB. As a member of the brethren, this sad event prevokes a smile when remembering the countless occasions of endless laughter & plain craziness. He was a part of what made Cooper 4 great. My deepest feeling of sorrow for his family. The prayers of many are with you.

Some of greatest times, and most of the hardest laughs, I've had while hanging out with Rob. Never a dull moment with him, and I've never seen anything other than a smile on his face. The hilarious stories from conventions alone could keep me typing here for weeks. He was always looking out for his friends and I can't begin to tell you how many things he did to help me and my career, time after time. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and kids. I am at a loss for words. He will be missed. DEARLY.

Dear Samsel family,

I am so sorry for your loss, and I am deeply saddened by this tragic news. Rob and I were great "Cooper 4" buddies and I will always consider him a dear friend. I reconnected with him recently, and he was beaming about his wife and family. As many good times as we had in the past, I truly think this was the happiest he ever sounded. Cherish your memories, and know that many prayers are with you.

For me, the lasting memory of Rob is sitting at his home in Glen Hills, watching Sha-Na-Na on the television and preparing for our Lincoln middle school interpretation of Barbara Ann. (Bar, Bar, Bar....Bar, Barbara Ann.) Rob was our leader - greased back hair, sunglasses, and an over-the-top level of enthusiasm. I believe it was a hit - I know we had fun!

Dear Samsel Family,

I was absolutely stunned to learn of Rob’s unexpected passing. Please accept my sincere condolences during this most difficult time.

Rob was a very thoughtful guy and very good at staying in touch with people. Having been friends in high school art class, we continued to stay in touch somewhat during the college years and occasionally through our grownup years. As the years went by, he’d call from time to time just to see how things were going and to tell a story or two.

Rob was quite a character, as many can attest. He had a great sense of humor with a dash of irreverence that rivaled many “Saturday Night Live” cast members. He had a distinct voice that was all his own and a unique talent for talking in “silly” voices. A child at heart, he was quite the comedic one and I suspect his son enjoyed every minute of it.

Rob spoke very fondly of his beautiful wife and was overjoyed with “Junior“. It was nice to hear someone speak with such pride about his family. He enjoyed spending his days with his boy and remarked how similar he was to Rob Jr. when he was his age. He will truly be missed by all.

My thoughts and wishes are with his family and friends.

Leslie, such sad news to hear. My love to you and your family. I will always laugh and smile when I recall my brief "encounter" with Rob, as I chased down your Jeep frantically waving and thinking it was you, only to realize later that it was him. I could tell then that he had a great sense of humor.

I have worked in and around the Comicbook retail market for more years than I can remember, some of that time was spent working with Rob. There is no doubt that he was the party wherever he went. We didn't see each other often lately but seeing him at ComicConn this past year up in North Haven, I can honestly say he was never happier... being the Proud Papa and showing off his boy. No one on the planet could massacre my name like he could. My best wishes to his family and friends, you will be in my thoughts.
Sincerely,

To the Entire Samsel Family,
It was with utter shock for me to hear of Rob's passing. My deepest sympathy go out to all of you. I'm sad I never stayed in touch with him after high school. Rob had a HUGE influence on my life looking back at my high school years. Rob turned me onto most of the music I listened to in the 80's... British Ska (The Specials, The English Beat & Madness), my first concert with The Police and the Go-Go's. This very sad event brings back a lot of happy memories. I will never forget the party at the Jones' house, yikes! (If you were there you would know what I mean!) He will be missed by many. I will keep you all in my prayers.

It's 3am in Denver and I can't stop thinking about Rob(Sammy). I'm devastated beyond words, and my heart goes out to the Samsel family. Rob and I met at UB and became the best of friends. Regretfully, we let distance, and life in general, get in the way of seeing each other. However, I do take comfort in the fact that we chatted recently and told each other how much we missed each other. So, I say it again, "I miss you my friend". Your friend always..

I went to college at UB with Rob, I was in Chaffee 4 across from Cooper 4.
He defintely knew how to make people
laugh:-) I remember the day I met Rob. Chaffee 4 cheered on Cooper 4 in a pizza pie eating contest-- in front of the dorms. I haven't seen Rob in awhile--but after reading some of the other entries, it sounds like Rob continued on, to be someone you were glad to have met.
To the family, his wife and child, my heart goes out to you, I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am completely stunned to read this terrible news. It is so very hard to imagine silencing that great laugh. I can still see him and his roommate, Wild Wild Wesch, in the hallway on Cooper 4 at all hours of the night, causing mayhem, making us all laugh. I wish I could come to the service to meet his family and let them know the impact he had on us at UB. He will be sorely missed at our next Cooper 4 reunion.

So very sorry to hear of Rob's untimely passing. I knew Rob first from his position at Wizard Magazine, then from the time he managed the comic book business at Steve Seto's store on Black Rock Turnpike, and then finally from Fantasy Comics in Bridgeport. Rob always had a smile on his face, and a story to tell. I saw him be a proud poppa at the North Haven comic book show last May and he was beaming! My condolences and prayers go out to his loving family and friends.
