MERIDEN - Robert E. Samsel Sr., 46, died unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at MidState Medical Center. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Leslie (Chabot) Samsel, his loving wife and soul mate of eight years.
Born July 8, 1964, he was the son of David J. and Barbara (Murphy) Samsel. Robert spent the first 25 years of his life in Meriden where he attended local schools. He was a proud graduate of the University of Bridgeport. Upon graduating from college he resided in Bridgeport for the past 20 years where he was self employed in the card and comic collectible business. Robert was a devoted husband and father. He couldn't wait to become a father and he was the best ever. Robert was an avid Red Sox Fan and had hopes his son would someday pitch for the team. He loved animals especially his cats and enjoyed all types of music. Robert truly enjoyed spending time with his friends from high school, college and "Cooper 4".
Besides the love of his life, Leslie, Robert is survived by his son, Robert E. Samsel, Jr., of Meriden; three step-sons, Michael J. Morin, of Meriden, Matthew S. Morin and Andrew S. Morin, both of R.I.; his sister, Cheryl Amenta and her husband, Michael, of Middletown; his godson and nephew, Sebastian Amenta, of Middletown; his godmother and aunt, Susan Poriss and her husband, David, of Burlington; brothers-in-law, Timothy Chabot, of Thompson and William Chabot and his wife, Becky, of Manchester; and two nieces, Jillian and Victoria Amenta, both of Middletown. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Edward and Katherine Murphy; and his paternal grandparents, Chester and Catherine Samsel; and his best friend, Andrew Shaw, of Bridgeport.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
