Roland Fortin Obituary

Roland Joseph Fortin Sr.
January 11, 1932 - June 29, 2024
Roland Joseph Fortin Sr., 92, of Plantsville, beloved husband of the late Marie Jeannette (Seneschal) Fortin, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at home, with his loving family at his side. Roland was born on January 11, 1932, in Saint-Eusebe, Quebec, Canada, the eldest son of late Delphis and Amanda (Dionne) Fortin. He lived in Van Buren, Maine then moved to CT at the age of 15 for employment. While living in Southington, he met his future wife, Jeannette. They were married 71 years at the time of her death in 2022. Roland had a long work history in CT, sometimes working 3 jobs, including employment at Atwater Manufacturing, Lori Engineering and was employed as a Maintainer for many years at DePaolo Middle School for the Southington Board of Education. Unfortunately, retiring sooner than expected due to a work-related injury. He was also a valued member of the staff of DellaVecchia Funeral Home for several years where he could be found greeting families and guests at the door or working various funeral services. Roland was a Lt. for the Marion Volunteer Fire Dept. Co. 4 for many years. Family was the center of his life. He was a doting grandfather and great-grandfather and treasured the time with his children and extended family. He was an avid gardener who planted many items but could always be counted on for amazing rhubarb. He and his late wife loved to travel in their 38ft motor home as members of Outdoor World. They visited countless campgrounds over the years and made amazing friends in their travels. Roland and his wife were members of Faith Living Church in Plantsville where he was a greeter and volunteer for well over 20 years. Roland is survived by his daughter, Rita (Ken) Paradis of FL; his son, Roland (Estelle) Fortin Jr. of VA; son, Michael (Kelly) Fortin Sr. of Plantsville; son, Paul (Roseann) Fortin Sr. of Plantsville; and son, Brian (John) Carter of FL. He is also survived by three sisters: Irene Strid, Joyce Zetterman and Camella Sirois. He also leaves behind to treasure his memory 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings, 3 grandchildren, and an infant son, William. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 5th at 11 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. His family will receive visitors prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved bride Jeannette. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the CT Humane Society at www.cthumane.org or to Southington Bread for Life at www.southingtonbreadforlife.org . Uncle Roland the only thing I take from this that makes me happy, is knowing you are reunited with the love of your life, Aunt Jeannette. Your baby sister, Camilla, my Memere, will miss you n your almost daily calls together, where she'd check on you and you'd be sure to pray for each other n send love to each other's families. You were her last brother and now she is only 1 of 3 sisters left, so she needs you to continue to look out for her, but now from above. You will truly be missed by us all, anyone who knew you loved you because you gave love to everyone. May you rest peacefully Uncle Roland and please watch over all the family you left behind and give them all strength to get through this. To the Fortin Family, near or far, if you need anything, please dont hesitate to ask. God Bless you all and from me, Jessica (Sirois) LLanos in Pennsylvania and my Memere, Camilla (Fortin) Sirois in Connecticut, we love you all and Uncle Roland will live on in our hearts n our memories. Stay safe & take care everyone.

Roland was one of the reasons I hated to leave Faith Living Church when I moved away from Plantsville. I always looked forward to our Sunday conversations after Church Service had ended. While he will be missed by all who knew Him, we can all rejoice knowing that he is now face to face with his Master.......and you can be sure He will be there to greet you upon your arrival.......with new stories to tell!!!
