Saul Seligman Obituary

BLOOMFIELD - Dr. Saul Seligman, 99, of 8-J Westview Drive, Bloomfield, husband of Janetta Palmer Seligman, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at his home with devoted and loving family surrounding him after a slow decline.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 15, 1908, the son of Esther (Thompson) and Max Seligman. After leaving Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Colchester for two years. He entered fourth grade in Meriden and graduated from Meriden High School in 1925. He graduated from Brown University in 1929 with a bachelor of Philosophy degree. Continuing his education, he attended Harvard University Dental School for one year before transferring to Tufts Dental, where he graduated in 1933 with a D.M.D. degree. Dr. Seligman practiced dentistry in Meriden for 45 years where he was respected by all of his patients. The later years of his life he spent in Delray Beach, Fla., and at his home in Beach Park, Clinton. Dr. Seligman was a member of Congregation B'nai Abraham and B'nai Brith, President of Meriden Dental Society, Life member of American Dental Association and Connecticut State Dental Association, member of Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity and President of Meriden Probus Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Myrna and Gerol Friedman of Clinton, Ellen and John Taylor of Bloomfield, Joan and Arnold Vogel of Longmeadow, Ma.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Susan Schreibman, Debra Schreibman, Lauren and Andrew Berman, Eric and Lisa Shorr, Jennifer and Scott Satalino, Daniel and Jennifer Shorr, Shari and Jonathan Schuman, Tracy and Elias Dau, Melanie and Daniel Sadok; eight great-grandchildren, David, Mitchel, Gabriel, Gabriella, Samantha, Alyssa, Michael and Jacob; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Dorothy Palmer; sister-in-law, Adele Seligman; Dr. Seligman is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Benjamin Seligman and Louis Seligman; and sister Mary S. Sholkovitz.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 12 noon at Temple B'nai Abraham, 127 East Main St., Meriden, with Rabbi Jeffery Glickman officiating. Burial will be in B'nai Abraham Cemetery. A period of mourning will be observed at the home of Janetta Seligman Sunday, Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept. 3 evenings, 8-J Westview Drive, The 600's Apartments, 600 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. Saul was very dear to us. He accepted me many years ago into his family, and did the same for my wife years later. Marion and I wish we were with you now, Netta, to comfort you. All our love and support.

The goodness of this man will live on for generations- in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many, many friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. I know my family will. He was my uncle. Our heartfelt sympathy to Aunt Netta and her wonderful family.
