Theresa Chmielewski Obituary

Theresa "Terry" Chmielewski
August 25, 1935 - October 17, 2024
Theresa "Terry" Chmielewski, 89, widow of Edward J. Chmielewski, Sr., passed away on October 17th, 2024, at home in Kensington.
Terry was born in Middletown to the late Frank and Agnes Superson and the family moved to New Britain.
Terry and Ed were introduced to each other in 1956, engaged within a year and married in 1957. They started their family in New Britain, and in 1967, moved to Kensington with their sons Ed and Ken. It was there that they had daughter Karen and their family was complete.
Terry and Ed enjoyed 58 years together until Ed's passing in 2016.
Terry's friends knew her as an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Paul Ladies Guild, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Timberlin Club Lady Niners, New Britain Council of Catholic Women and the Kensington Garden Club.
Terry also had a very successful 28 year career working for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch at New Britain Superior Court JD, before retiring in 1997.
Terry enjoyed being home with her family, watching her grandchildren and having family gatherings. UCONN basketball was one of her favorite teams to watch and cheer for. She was blessed throughout her life with a great family and close friends. Eddie and Terry parented three children, who, in turn, rewarded them with 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Terry and Eddie are together again watching over their children, Edward Jr., and wife Susan Chmielewski, their two sons, Sean and wife Ashley Chmielewski, and Mark Chmielewski; son Ken and the late Darcy Chmielewski, their three daughters, Jennifer Chmielewski and husband Rory Coleman; Melanie Chmielewski and husband Robert Harrington; and Kathryn Chmielewski; and daughter Karen and husband Scott Sandler, their three children, Ryan, Aaron and Samuel Sandler; four great-grandchildren, Aiden Chmielewski, Riley and Paige Harrington, and Noah Chmielewski along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and a great-nephew.
In addition to her husband and parents, Terry was predeceased by her brother Stanley Superson.
In honoring Terry's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on October 25, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Church, 487 Alling Street., Kensington, CT. Terry and I were classmates in junior high and high school. There are very few of us remaining from the Class of '53 at NBHS. She was a very sweet friend.

I am so sorry that Terry is gone. She was a wonderful, loving, and very friendly neighbor. She was very active in town and more than willing to share her activities. She invited me many times to join in her clubs and other activities. She could always be counted on for help when needed. She will be greatly missed in the neighborhood. I will greatly miss the long conversations we had catching up on family happenings whenever we would meet at the grocery store, or after Mass, or when going for a walk around the block.
Terry was a truly caring person who will always be remembered.
My heart-felt condolences to the family.

Dear Eddie, Kenny, and Karen and families,
I was saddened to read of your mom's passing. She was such a cheerful person filled with joy each time i encountered her. Your mom and dad were an extraordinary couple who will always bring me fond memories and a smile to my heart. It is evident to me that the qualities of peace, grace, kindness and love will always abide in you because of them. May the beautiful memories they left behind bring you peace and comfort.
With deepest sympathy, Maryann Rothstein
