Thomas Kearney Obituary

MERIDEN - Thomas M. Kearney, 57, of Meriden, died July 4, 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Bryda; his son, Martin Kearney; his sisters, Maryanne Spagnoli and her husband, Gary, Eileen Kearney, Jean Guyader and her husband, Mike, and Sharon Denizkurt and her husband, Al; his mother-in-law, Emily (Mrs. Benedict) Bryda; his sister-in-laws, Ellen Greguoli and her husband, Richard, and Jennifer Bryda; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Benedict Bryda Jr.

He was born in Hackensack, N.J., a son of the late Thomas F. and Eileen Neylon Kearney. Tom graduated from Ramapo College and Rutgers School of Law where he attained his juris doctorate. Despite his intellect, Tom was happiest with a paint brush in hand, pencil behind his ear, and a roll of wallpaper under his arm. He worked in property management and as an independent painting contractor for many years. Tom's final career change was made 10 years ago when he began his employment at Kohl's Department Store. He treasured the many friendships that he developed while at Kohls. Tom enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hiking, and travel. He completed a cross country trip in the USA, traveled in Europe, and visited the Dominican Republic several times. On May 5, 2000, Tom returned from the most important trip of his life. After six weeks in Bogota, Columbia and years of planning, Tom returned to America with infant son Martin safely tucked in his arms. Tom was a stay at home dad until Martin was preschool age. Tom loved sharing milestones as a dad and has always been "very proud of the smart and creative" young man that Martin has become.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, Monday, July 13, from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Notre Dame Church in Durham where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Martin Kearney Education Fund, c/o The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext.,Wallingford, CT 06492.
