Walter Bazzini Obituary

Walter L. Bazzini, 59, of Durham, died as he wished, at home with his wife Debra, on September 5, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer.

The son of Rhana Bazzini of Sarasota, FL, and the late Eugene Bazzini, he attended local schools. After graduating from Coginchaug High School he attended the Gemological Institute of America in New York City and received a diploma as a Graduate Gemologist. He was also designated as a Certified Gemologist by the American Gem Society and was a Designated Member of the International Society of Appraisers. The family operated a retail jewelry store in Madison for almost 20 years until Eugene Bazzini's retirement in 1999. He was also employed by the Fusaro Jewelry Company in New York City.

Walter's introduction to computers began with the early machines designed for small business use and soon grew into a full time interest that led him into the second half of his professional life. He was employed by PTS Asset Management of North Haven for nearly 14 years as an Operations and Internet Technologies Specialist.

In addition to his wife Debra and his mother Rhana he is survived by his wife's family whom he acquired by marriage: her son, Blair Goodlin and his wife Bernadette So-Goodlin and their daughters, Victoria and Lenora who will miss their "Grumpa". He is also survived by an aunt, Marianne Holmes of Fort Meyers, FL, and her husband.

Arrangements are private. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Smilow Cancer Center in New Haven, the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe in Shoreham, NY, or the SS United States Conservancy in Washington, DC.

Went to school with Walter, I think from the first grade on. In High School I remember I was jealous of how well he could draw. Very sorry for your loss

Debbie --
I was Walter's English teacher at Coginchaug and we've kept up an email relation for all these years. He was a continued resource for information about the many things he was an expert in, and we shared many common interests. I will miss his dry wit, advice, and friendship. I hope it's a small comfort to know he will always be with you. Know that you are both in my thoughts.

Debra,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Walter. I met Walter while working as a IT vendor when he was at PTS. We had a lot in common including love of computers, open source software, and most anything with an engine, especially diesel ones. I did not know Walter was a Gemologist but that is certainly fitting with his scientific mind. I also didn't realize we shared an interest in the work of Nikola Tesla. I will miss the funny and inciteful email discussions with my friend "Diesel Walter".

Dear Mrs Bazzini and all of Walter's family,
I can picture Walter in the halls of Coginchaug, always with a smile, like it was yesterday. I remember Walter's interest in gems as far back as grammar school . I am so very sorry to hear about his passing.
With heartfelt sympathy

So sorry to hear of Walters passing. We lived across the street from Walter for over 30 years. He grew up with all of the Becker boys.
