William Slater Obituary

William J. Slater, 62, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly at his home.

He was born in Meriden on May 12, 1958, a son of the late Francis and Jeannie (Howat) Slater

He attended Wallingford public schools and graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1976. He traveled cross country in his van visiting many historic parks. He loved telling stories about his adventures to anyone that would listen and was known to many as Willy. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved his family and friends. He always kept in touch through Facebook, gatherings and impromptu visits. He always had a ready smile and was happiest when he was spending time with his family. He had a heart of gold with a mischievous smile.

He worked for Mike McDermott at Rite Weld for many years gaining experience prior to opening his business. He owned and operated Slaters Diesel Machine and Engine repair in 1987 for approximately 11 years in Wallingford. He was a very talented mechanic and could fix anything and often worked on large ships.

He had a zest for life and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He had fond memories of spending time with his lifelong friends in his younger days at Franks place in Vermont. He loved to cook and made the best avocado toast. He loved the outdoors, camping, and NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his daughter, Krystal Alloggio of Au Sable Forks, NY; his grandchildren, Payton and Madison Alloggio; his brother, Robert Slater and his wife, Gail, of Wallingford whom he spent a lot of his time with; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Ryan Slater and his sisters, Carrol Maguder and Susan Slater.

His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford on Saturday (TODAY), January 30, 2021 from 2 pm until 4 pm. (COVID-19 precautions and face covering are required at the funeral home) To send condolences online visit www.wallingfordfh.com
