William "Bill" Walter Wawrzeniak Sr., 79, went home to the Lord on April 2, 2021 following a brief battle with Cancer. He was the beloved husband of Linda (Spooner) Wawrzeniak, with whom he would have celebrated their 59th anniversary on April 7th of this year.

Bill was born in Meriden, the son of Walter and Genevieve (Stabach) Wawrzeniak, on March 18, 1942.

Bill was an Electronic Sales Representative and retired as a partner in Agile Electronic Sales. He was an accomplished drummer and weekend musician from the age of 15. At the time he retired from playing in 1987 he had been the drummer for the Country Kings for 22 yrs. He was a licensed amateur radio operator (W1KKF) for 65 years, a founding member of the Wallingford Repeater Association, and president of the Meriden Amateur Radio Club for many years. He was an accomplished skier and enjoyed planning numerous annual family ski weekends with many of his extended family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons William Jr. (Anita Harris) of Acton, ME, and Robert (Sarah) of Durham, CT, and by his grandson, Ian Wawrzeniak, who he loved and adored beyond measure. In addition, he is survived by his Brothers John (Cookie) of Mansfield, TX, and Thomas (Sharon) of VT and AZ, as well as his step-grandsons, Dominic and Christopher Harris. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ronald Spooner (Adele) of Addison, IL, two aunts, five nieces and two nephews and their families, as well as many cousins and their families. He is predeceased by his parents, brother and sister-in law Norman Spooner (Millie), several aunts, uncles, and three nieces.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Bill's passing and my heartfelt sympathies go out to his family. I met Bill through the amateur radio club and he was always generous with his time and expertise in helping me get on the air. He was a great teacher and mentor. Whenever I had a question I always knew I could give him a call and he would have a solution. I will miss him dearly.

I was lucky enough to have been part of the Wawrzeniak family for over 16 years. During that time we had many great adventures and lots of laughter. We visited the storage facility called “Cram-a-Lot Inn”, saw “Uncle Tony” at his restaurant in Providence, danced at my wedding and so many other great memories. I will surely miss “Dad W” and he will always have a special place in my heart, as all the Wawrzeniak family does. Love you Dad!

Sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. He will be missed by all of us. I’ve known him since I was a young boy. He was an integral part of the Amateur Radio community in the Meriden and Wallingford area. He was a great morse code (CW) operator as well as a very savvy electronics expert. I learned a great deal from him through the years. 73 OM de WY1U SK

I have many fond memories serving with Bill on the troop committee of Troop 4 in Wallingford. He was very devoted to Scouting and served in several capacities over many years. Bill was part of a team including Dave Hopkins, Fred Monahan Bill Kosche and myself who guided the troop through some of its most active years. A fine man and exemplary citizen.

I'm both shocked and saddened. He was a great friend for 30+ years, and an inspiration and "Elmer" to countless Hams -- including me. He was always generous with his time and expertise, and so many of us owe him a huge debt of gratitude. My condolences to Linda, and the family. 73, OM. RIP

We have so many happy memories of time spent with Bill...gracious God parent to our daughter, years of fun as Don's band mate in the Country Kings, picnics and parties...the band family! We will surely miss him. Don and I send our best love to Linda, Bill and Bob and their families...we pray for your comfort! Rest in peace, Bill, but hold onto those drumming skills...there's a piano/ fiddle player waiting for you!

We are all stunned to hear of Bill’s passing. We’ve known each other since the Club met at Meriden. Years ago I wrote his bio for KeyKlix, Meriden Amateur Radio Club’s newsletter; and in doing I learned of his many accomplishments in life. Bill was an avid amateur radio operator... a snappy CW Morse code op. I remember well when we teamed-up and shared a midnight time slot for our yearly Field Day contest. Bill will be missed — may he rest in peace.

To Linda and Bill’s family, Ellen and I aresaddened to hear of Bill’s passing. Bill was one of the first friends I made in the amateur radio community after moving to CT from Boston six years ago. I will remember him as a gentle and generous man who always made time for me and others, sharing his expertise and knowledge. He was such a joy to be around too.
Our deepest sympathies,
James (AB1DQ) & Ellen

I will remember Bill as a caring Ham who help me to learn about Amateur Radio. I knew him mainly through our Meriden Amateur Radio Club interactions. Just watching Bill W1KKF, run meetings as President, taught me much about how to be a leader and a friend. I will always remember how helpful he was to me. I will miss him as will his many friends and club members. W1NRG will find an appropriate way to remember his many contributions to our Club and ensure that his call W1KKF and his name will not be forgotten. He thus, will be associated with his beloved MARC forever. May he Rest In Peace.
