David Martin Obituary
North Fort Myers, FL - David Russell Martin, born 5/9/1938 to Leslie and Ruth( Mayer) Martin in Greenfield, MA. Passed away on April 11, 2025.
David was brought up in Northfield, MA, where he always said he had one of the best childhoods you could have. He graduated from Northfield High School as President of his class in 1956. All through school he was an avid player in baseball, basketball and soccer. He went to UMass for a period of time but in 1959, he started working at The Franklin Savings Institution, and continued in banking until he retired in 1995 from Cambridge Savings Bank as an Executive Vice President.
David leaves his wife Darreen (Wentworth) of 39 years. Together they traveled extensively after their retirements throughout the United States. David also leaves three children, Michelle Welcome, David Martin and Lynne (Jim) Podlesney. Three grandchildren, Matthew (Rose) Welcome, Cody Podlesney and Sarah Podlesney. He leaves a sister, Joyce Piper McLean in Westfield, MA and a brother, Donald (Sandy) in South Bend, Indiana.
David was an avid golfer and played at both the Northfield Golf Course and Crumpin Fox for many years.
David held many positions within the Franklin County community with United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and on Boards pertaining to Banking.
David and Darreen have lived in the Lake Fairways Country Club in North Fort Myers, FL, for over 20 years.
Arrangements for cremation will be handled by Fuller-Metz Funeral Home in Cape Coral, FL. A celebration of life will be held at the Parish Center Hall at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Beacon Street, Greenfield, MA at 11:00 A.M. on May 17, 2025
