Northfield, MA —

Donald McCollester, 95, died peacefully at his home on August 27, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born on March 30, 1926, the son of Harvey and Madeline (Holland) McCollester in Shirley, MA. He had 3 brothers: Harvey, Robert, and Kenny. Donald served in the US Army during World War II as a radio operator in Brazil. After returning from the Service, he married the former Christine Wolfe in 1948 and they settled in the Northfield area, with Donald working at the Northfield & Mount Hermon schools (a position he would retain until his retirement in 1988). Donald and Christine have two daughters; Darshan (born 1948) and Kerry (born 1952). He was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Northfield, and for decades was an active member of the Masonic Lodge of Massachusetts, eventually becoming head of the Massachusetts Lodge.

Donald and Christine loved to travel throughout the US, and for years vacationed annually in Stowe, VT. He was well known throughout the Northfield community for his beautiful yard and garden, as well as the wild animals that he took to feeding daily from his yard. Locals fondly recall his willingness to volunteer and help whomever needed assistance, whether it was a local church event or a neighbor who needed a ride to a doctor's appointment.

He was predeceased by his wife Christine in 2015. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Darshan and Kerry, 6 Grandchildren, and 5 Great-Grandchildren. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
