Eleanor B. Golembeski
Boston, MA - Eleanor B. Golembeski, 94, died Monday 10/6/25 at CareOne at Millbury. Eleanor was born on August 9, 1931, to Eva Hemingway and Leon Pine. When she was 2 years old, Leon died leaving Eva to fend for her four children, Buster, Polly, Dorothy and Eleanor. This childhood tragedy and Eva's strong work ethic, instilled in Eleanor a strength and determination that would guide her through life.
She graduated as a class officer from Turners Falls High School in 1951. She married Timothy Golembeski her senior year of high school but had to keep it secret as married women were not allowed to attend school in those years. She and Tim had four children: Debra of Turners Falls, Timothy of Millers Falls, Richard of Boston and Eve of Auburn. She is also survived by granddaughter Teah and two great grandsons, Haiden and Damari.
Eleanor was proud of her Millers Falls heritage and was awarded a Historic Certificate by the town for her renovation of the Ward's Block building in the town center. With her daughter Eve, she ran a large antique & estate store within the Ward's Block building.
She had the unusual combination of a very strong business mind mixed with emotional intelligence. She was often asked to consult on sales strategies as well as console and guide people through life's problems. She didn't believe in wasting time and encouraged people to take chances and find happiness along the way. She loved swimming, golf and walking. She would get after you if you were not walking fast enough.
Eleanor wanted to help people in any way she could. She took in fresh air kids from Harlem during the summer, opened her home to International students and volunteered at Mass General Hospital as a subject for Alzheimer's research. She was also creative and exhibited her paintings at the Provincetown Art Association. She loved cooking creatively, interior design (she had no fear of using wild colors), fashion and tailoring.
Her home was always open to extended family, friends and large gatherings. She and her husband were great dancers and entertainers. They made everyone feel special. It was impossible not to feel welcome in their home.
As her ability to remember dwindled, she spent more time in Boston, Cape Cod and Auburn to be closer to her children. However, in each place her beautiful smile, unwavering optimism and beautiful spirit attracted new friends, young and old. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held Monday 10/27 at 1pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Millers Falls.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
