Ernest LaPlante Obituary
Greenfield, MA — Ernest B. LaPlante Jr., 94 of Greenfield, MA died Sunday morning (6-12-2022) at home. He was born in Brattleboro, VT on May 11, 1928, the son of Ernest and Louise (Hale) LaPlante. Ernest was a graduate of Powers Institute in Bernardston, MA and then served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He was married on June 22, 1948 to the former Gloria McKenzie. He was married 59 years until Gloria's passing in 2008.
Early in life he was a dairy farmer, then working for the B&M railroad for several years. He then served as custodian first at Bernardston Elementary school, then Buckland Elementary, and finally at Mohawk Trail Regional School from where he retired. After retirement he drove bus for Kuzmeskus Bus Co. and the FRTA well into his eighties. He was a proud member of the Oak Ridge Detachment of the Marine Corp. In his later life he loved working in his gardens.
He is survived by his children: Barbara Louise Sund and her husband Verne, of Northfield, MA, Peter LaPlante of Greenfield, MA, and Kathleen Dawn McCarthy of Myrtle Beach, SC., six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Robert McCarthy.
There will be a service for Ernest on Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 A.M. at the East Dover Baptist Church, East Dover, VT. The Rev. Robert McIntire, Pastor will officiate.
There are no calling hours.
